I know that tomorrow is Aprils Fool Day, but this is no joke. There genuinely is an association that governs the ‘sport’ of lawn mower racing. Yes you heard that right. People race the devices that you sit on and cut the lawn with. Tomorrow marks the 18th year for the USLMRA (United States Lawn Mower Racing Association).

We’re turning 18, and as lawn mower racing comes of age, we need to get more serious about our sport,” said Bruce Kaufman, “Mr. Mow It All” USLMRA Founder & President. “As America’s oldest and largest national lawn mower racing sanctioning body, we used to say ‘anything mows,’ but we’re adults now. We’re still on the ‘cutting edge’ but now we’re all about maturity

There is even a video celebrating the sport.

Who can resist competitors with names such as Sodzilla, Turfinator, Weedy Gonzales and Sir Lawnsalot? These apparently represent the very apex of the sport. Apparently they have retired but there are rumors that they may return.

Mr. Mow It All would neither confirm nor deny that to mark the USLMRA’s 18th birthday, Sodzilla, Turfinator, Weedy Gonzales and Sir Lawnsalot would come out of retirement for the 2010 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series, but he did announce that the 2010 inductees into the National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame & Museum of America will be announced on the 4th of July.

I could not make this up if I tried!

They even have a web site.
