Its noteworthy that the anti-PMC crowd conveniently forgets the reality of who knows how many former service members sentenced to confinement in Leavenworth for every crime known to mankind. Yet they waste no time caterwauling about PMCs and demanding an end to the industry.

I guess alo long as its government employees committing the crimes and not private employees, everything is fine-? They can’t have it both ways - either we bring back the draft or we seriously reduce our overseas involvement. Until then, PMCs are here to stay.

Fantastic post and I agree. I fight the public misconception about this industry daily on my blog, and we need more books and guys like yourself who give ‘the other side’ of the discussion. The key is balance, and there has not been anything of the sort when it comes to conversation about what it is we do, or have accomplished.

As a former Marine, we go and do things that most won’t or can’t do… It’s the same for any other military person. And for contractors I feel it’s the same way. Assessing threats are done at a moment’s notice…

No matter what you do or where you work, there will be bad apples. It’s a fact of life…

I am a photographer. I try to tell my story the right way. The press has a bad way of spinning a tale, be it right or wrong and saying it’s the truth.

Every story has two sides. Period. I think too many times people see or read things and take it for the truth, when at times it’s not.

Far from it…more “half truths” than naught. I can go on and on about “journalistic values” and what makes a good story but, that is a story in itself.

Thanks to you both… Nice to get a complete story.

Thank you for the truth. I worked with Triple Canopy (TC) in Baghdad on the DSS Contract for 2 years and worked along side of Blackwater as well. Both companies are great. If TC were there at Nisoor Square in place of Raven 23 nothing would have changed. They (BW) did what they were paid to do. TC would have done the same thing.

The circumstances suck but…put yourself in their shoes.

PMC never get credit only blame. Thanks for the truth.

It is such a pleasure to read an article that offers the truth, regarding Military Contractors. Most news media usually report only half of the story with such hype, it does nothing but cause senseless hatred, and places some contractors in serious danger. I am sure there are bad apples within the industry that deserve a bad rep. Non the less, it is good to hear the rest of the story and in rare form… the truth!
