Thieves! I don’t have much money, but what little I have – Keep your hands off!
My Representative, Earl Pomeroy, voted FOR the passage of the Senate’s massive health insurance overhaul Sunday night. Among many of the onerous provisions that our country can’t afford:
- Children will be able to remain under their parents health coverage until they are 26.
- Insurance companies who participate in the government-run exchange will be allowed to provide for abortions. Many prolife orgs, including the National Right to Life, say that federal funds will be used for some of those abortions.
- In all, there will be a half a trillion in new taxes.
- The House “fixes” on the Senate bill raise taxes $50 Billion dollars more, as well as cut Medicare spending $66 billion more for a total of $523 billion.
- The $523 billion of money taken from Medicare will be used to pay for this new government program, including subsidies to help families with incomes up to $75,000 a year buy health insurance. $75,000 is NOT low income. Â I, for one, do not want my health needs to come before those of my elders – in particular, the vets who fought for our country and their wives.
- Estimates are that this legislation will expand the deficit by more than $660 billion dollars. So, not only are we neglecting the needs our elders, but we’ll be leaving our grandchildren with an impossible debt.
-Â The above are facts. There are rumors of much more to be frightened of.
Thanks Earl Pomeroy. I for one, will be voting for your opponent. You, too, Obama. You are no hero of mine.
The campaigns against all those that voted for this horrendous legislation must begin today, whether or not they even have an opponent yet.
I write this as a low income widow that has lived many years without Insurance. Having lived seven years in Canada and witnessed their abysmal care, I would rather have no insurance than to have our country and health care system ruined by Canadian style Obamacare.Â
These last few weeks, even listening to Obama go on and on with his rhetoric makes me sick to my stomach. Is it just me, or does he talk now with a sing song in his voice, as if he’s a Television Evangelist? Someone please tell him to stop. Please. It’s truly nauseating.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWell done America! At last the wealthiest country in the world has honoured its moral obligation to its citizens – and its constitution for that matter (all men are created equal).
Opponents should stop moaning and pull together to make healthcare for all work.
Moral Obligation? You haven’t a clue as to how much current Medicare already fails our elderly, do you? And now Obamacare is going to cut care to the elderly further? Where is your moral obilgation to your elders?
Moral Obligation? You haven’t a care about the moral obligation we have not to keep passing increasing debt on to our children, do you? Where is your moral obligation to our children?
Wealthiest country in the world? You haven’t been watching things change, have you? You haven’t a clue that the US is kind of having a little difficulty with its economy lately?
Most people that feel as you do are either too young to know what you are talking about, or someone too wealthy or too poor to think the cost of this legislation will affect him/her one way or another, and doesn’t care how it will affect anyone else. Where is your moral obligation to keep your hands out of your neighbors pockets?
Just out of curiosity, how do you handle your home budget? If you are old enough to have children, what do you tell them when you can’t afford something new? Or do you tell them to go get it from their neighbor?
Are you aware that we can’t afford this legislation?
Let me tell you something else – I’ve gone most of my life without any insurance. I have paid cash in monthly payments to three hospitals, one clinic, an MRI service, and a dental office. And I WANT to keep doing things that way. There is no way it is consitutional for the government to tell me I can’t. YOU make me so angry – you are a thief! I don’t have much money, but what little I have – Keep your hands off!
Lisa
Let me tell you a true story. A check up a couple of months ago showed that I have a condition called “Atrial Fibrillation”. Not immediately life threatening but in need of treatment. From the day it was diagnosed all medical consultations have been free – including drugs. On Wednesday of this week I go into hospital for a cardioversion. It’s a skilled procedure requiring a high standard of care and attention, proper anaesthetics and stand by emergency care just in case. None of this will cost be a penny. Why? Because I am a citizen of the United Kingdom and we have a National Health Service. It stated in the year of my birth (1946) and it has looked after me ever since – and every other citizen of our country as well. And most of the rest of Europe is the same.
Under your great President Americans will soon have something which at least approaches what us Brits have enjoyed for more than 60 years. It is ignorant and churlish of you not to recognise that this is a long overdue advance for your citizens. I repeat – well done America!
You have got to be kidding me – YOU DON’T EVEN LIVE HERE!
You don’t know ANYTHING About American Health Care!
I lived in Canada – I know the propoganda you guys in other countries get about our health care. Funny – our health care is derided – until someone from Canada can’t find equal care up there and needs to come here to get treated right.
What are you trying to say – Americans can’t get care for Atrial Fib? What rock have you crawled out of? We have excellent health care! People are treated for Atrial Fib every day in America – and they are PROBABLY getting better care for it than YOU Are!
I’ll tell YOU A true story – I have RARELY had health insurance, but I have NEVER been denied care. Last summer, I went to the ER with complaints and had complete lab tests and an MRI given me – I was finished and headed home again within two hours of my arriving at the hospital. Do you get care like that in the UK? Sometimes, I have paid hospitals as little as $25 a month – with no complaint from the Hospital. I paid off two hospitals this year. I have never been denied care – and I have been able to pay at a rate I can afford. So stay in the UK with your care, and keep your bloody nose out of ours!
I apologize for my anger – but for someone from a different country to be saying “Well Done America,” knowing that not only did most Americans not want this legislation, but most are enraged by it – is an insult. It shows a complete lack of regard for the feelings and thoughts of most of America.
It’s bad enough that the liberals in DC are all patting themselves on the back and claiming they did it for “Americans.” I guess being insulted by the Obama Administration for over a year now has worn the nerves of many of us to the snapping point.
He signs executive orders to get what he,Pelosi, and Reid wants, not the people. He signed one to bring over a bunch of the Hamas. Their trans. housing, & jobs were paid for by U.S.taxpayers.
According to my husband, who knows way more about this than I, states that although alot of us don’t want this new healthcare, we are responsible for the people we voted in who supported this. It sucks, I definitley think we’re screwed!
It is unfortunate that the “Universal Health Care” every democratic president since Truman has been promoting is not the actual “Universal” care we as American’s will be receiving. If the care provided was the same as any European health plan, we would be on the right road to help those, like me, who can’t afford any kind of insurance.
However, the plan that actually passed, so dismembered it resembles nothing of the plan Ted Kennedy was hoping would come to fruition, hurts those it was intended to help while forcing the impoverished to pay outrageous taxes they can’t afford.
I’m not upset the bill got passed, I am thrilled about the potential for me to go to a doctor, maybe get a glasses prescription that is up to date to I can see without squinting and persisting my migraines. Maybe now I can afford to go back on my anti-depressants, and possibly have an allergy test to see why I am constantly sick. I am upset about the fact that I keep owing the government money for taxes I can’t afford! If what Paddy Briggs says is true, I am all for a UK style system where I pay nothing out of pocket, but as of right now, where at the end of the year my less than $1200/month paycheck somehow adds up to me owing the government over $400… I hope this means I can get some of that back by going to the doctor “for free.”
But I’ve strayed from my main point-
While the republican’s are nitpicking words and tossing around “Federal Funding for Abortions” maybe the general public would be interested to know that throwing around the word “abortion” is just a red herring to distract from the fact that if the original Universal Plan had passed, women would finally be able to have the right to the HEALTH CARE THEY WANT AND NEED. Just because a few old men and religious fundamentalists tout the word “abortion” a majority of American’s voiced their opinion against the original Universal plan. These fanatics in Washington by wrongly voicing this opinion voted against providing medical treatment to low-income women, thereby taking away any kind of financially viable access to those who can’t afford a regular doctor.
Luckily, I live in Oregon where I can use Planned Parenthood as a resource when I have a female medical emergency. Because I make less than $1200 a month I am able to have an annual exam and I have access to contraceptives, nurses, and prenatal care if I choose to use it. The government is NOT “funding abortions,” although that is a choice an individual can make, they are allowing women who could never afford care access to safe medical resources. Just because a select few religious factions think people shouldn’t have sex and use contraceptives, they shouldn’t punish the rest of us who live in happy, loving relationships and want to avoid having children for the time being.
Even being married I want the choice of when to have a child and so I will continue to use my contraceptive method until my husband and I decide the time is right. Although now with the new health care bill disguised as “Universal” for all, perhaps we should move to the UK or Europe so we can actually afford this universal method.
Excuse me? I happen to be a woman as well, and I am GLAD for all those in Congress that stood strong against abortion.
Since when haven’t we women been able to get the health care we need? I’ve ALWAYS been able to get it.
You know what I’ve done when I couldn’t afford my thyroid blood tests? I’ve gone ahead and had them, and then paid the hospital $25 a month. I’ve paid more when I could. I’m tired of the whining from all these people that think everyone else should pay for everything for them.
HEY! Newsflash! Free health care in other countries isn’t even free! I don’t know about Mr. UK, but in Canada, everyone pays a monthly premium! No different than if they were paying an insurance company! No one ever mentions that, do they?
If you are real low income, you can get it for free. But – here in the US, low income people get Medicaid. Or Indian Health. Or Medicare.
So if you are really low income – what did you need this new legislation for? And if you aren’t – sorry sister, you’re still going to have come up with a monthly premium. ONLY THIS time, if you can’t make your monthly payment – YOU GET TO GO TO JAIL.
It’s ridiculous all this talk about how no one can get the health care they need. It’s just not true – I’m speaking as someone that’s lived on Indian reservations, married to a tribal member, and had gone for long periods of time with extremely low income.
My husband had cancer while we lived in Canada, but came down to the States for all his care – because it was better here!!!
Almost 60% of the American People DID NOT WANT Obamacare Paddy and for you to not live here should not say what “we Americans” should or shouldn’t think. I have friends over in Europe, they do not care for the healthcare system you have. Canada comes to America for most of their healthcare. You haven’t a clue. Do me a favor and research Massachusettes, who put in place an “Obamacare” of sorts and see how BANKRUPT they are. Please, do research. And by the way, this isn’t about healthcare, this is about CONTROL. NObama is a socialist/marxist jerk.
