News Talk 97.3 The Sky has been waiting all day for the “go” sign from the St. Johns County Jail to pick up the reacted audio of Donna Brock, one of five people who were arrested on drug trafficking charges on January 20, 2010 in Putnam and St. Johns County. As of 5pm ET, the audio had not been completely processed.
Instead, officials at the Putnam County Jail released the latest recorded audio from Ronald Cummings, another one of the suspects in that drug bust and the father of 6-year-old HaLeigh Cummings who was taken from her Satsuma, FL home one year ago and to date has not been found.

I know some people just use that word in passing and don’t mean anything by it. BGirl, From what I’ve read so far, nobody said anything about your best friend, in fact, we don’t even know who she is. I want you to know that there are alot of people out there that support Ron when it comes to Haleigh,I for one don’t believe he is responsible for the disappearance of his daughter. I won’t lie, I think he may have some information that he hasn’t shared with LE. I must say though, He’s not gaining any new friends using the language he uses. I will say this for a fact, Ronald cummings is a racist. I don’t care how many black friends he has…nor do I care what other blacks call other blacks. I assure you there are some of us posting here who were raised in the Deep South and who had grandmothers who married at 14 or 15, etc., and have some understanding of the cultural issues at play here in regard to the issue and if you do not, and do not have a degree in cultural anthropology, I will assume you are speaking from outraged ignorance or merely looking to rip the mother of a missing child to shreds, from some motive best known to yourself.

I would never degrade people in the way Ron has. Ron knows all of his calls are being taped and there have been enough Florida cases to show that they do get broadcasted on TV, Internet or radio. How many people has he offended with his ignorant comment? How many guards who are protecting his @ss, how many police who have spent hours searching for his child, how many mothers, fathers and children who searched for Haleigh and have prayed for Ronald and his family?
Unlike you, I do not feel that his comment was just words, they were how he really feels, that is why he had no control in what he said knowing it would be heard by others.

I’m not sure if she is pregnant or not, but if not, I doubt it will be long before she is.
I also find it disturbing that these women are sleeping with relatives, and am worried about how the children will be raised. I do hope when they grow up, they are encouraged to look outside the family circle for their sexual partners.
What concerns me more, and which I’m discussing on the Where is Haleigh thread, is that Chad has at least one RSO who sexually assaulted a child in his family, and perhaps more than one. Do you know Chad’s mothers name or his siblings names? I am trying to figure out how Child RSO Hilda is related to him…I’m thinking she is his mother or aunt, but not sure.

But I also have friends that are black, that are moms and grandmas and we have had this conversation. Come on, I am not Ron’s mom but I have 2 sons close to his age. That fact is probably part of the reason my heart breaks for Ron’s mom. I can only imagine the horrible pain and fear that she is going through. Her own broken heart for Haleigh and her son in jail is too much. Thankfully to God I don’t know what that feels like. I don’t have a granddaughter much less one that is kidnapped and neither of my sons have been in jail. But knowing how much I love my sons I can only imagine how she feels. I would cut off my right arm for them. I would die for either one, I do not want to see them in pain. The thought of being in Teresa N shoes breaks me. I agree with Just One, that it’s not all right for white people to use the word. And I think the words he uses before that word indicate he is probably a racist and/or quite ignorant. I am not that surprised…racism is often rampant in small towns. And for the record, I abhor racism. But I still don’t think he did anything to Haleigh. Lots of racists raise kids and don’t kill them, so I don’t think one has anything to do with the other.

Young girls? With the exception of Misty, Crystal and Amber are around the same age as Ron, how about Johnny Sheffield and his involvement with his much younger female Connie, now his wife? It seems to be the norm in that family. How old was Marie when she had Crystal? 16, 17?

I’m just thinking about how it’s this type of language that breeds racism and hate. It’s also learned behavior and the language that HaLeigh and Jr probably heard on a daily basis, Thus, they would grow up thinking that using this type of language is “normal”.

I don’t want to disagree with you, but….
In my opinion, times have changed a lot since when your grandparents were married. Laws have also been enacted outlawing incest. I know these are not blood relatives, but they are still relatives, and in my opinion, to have 2 generations of women sleeping with relatives, it is odd at best, and very unfair to any children who get tarred by it.
When kids go to school, if another kid finds out that a kid’s sister is also his cousin, bullying, taunting, ridicule etc is the end result. Personally, I have never been attracted to a relative (whether blood or not) and I don’t think it’s natural to be attracted to a relative, and I’m sure glad I didn’t have a father that was also my uncle.
Ron may be a drug user and hillbilly but he does not know what happen to haleigh..he has been way way overcharged.
And having been a resident of my local jail, I can say some unsavory inmates to stink to high heaven.

I agree he probably had no DIRECT involvement with the disappearance of his daughter, but he has also done nothing to help find her. No real job, leeching off of who ever will help him, and he is using drugs. I hear he likes to shoot the pain killers into his tattoos so he can hide the marks. Haven’t seen any evidence that the Sheffield’s have anything to do with Haleigh gone missing.

It looks to me like some people who hasten to say Ron shouldn’t be judged by 21st century standards on his language (IF that’s what one blogger was getting at), are saying that Crystal should be judged by *some* 21st century attitudes about whether or not a person can have a relationship with someone she might at one point in time have looked at in a sisterly fashion, who is not actually her brother.

GMAB….Crystal was 14 & Ron 15 when they started dating. What 14 year old girl doesn’t date boys at least a year older than them? We all know girls are far more mature than boys at that age.

I agree with all that. But, it was the words that preceeded it that made me think he’s probably racist. If he’d said “I got a great group of n…s in the pod with me”, then I might think different.
That having been said, I believe he adored Haleigh and didn’t do a thing to her.
Crystal didn’t leave Haleigh with a under age girl who was gone all weekend doing drugs and sleeping with the masses. RC knew she was gone and what she was doing. Bad choice on RC behalf. Should have left the kids with Grandma Neeves or Sykes. (maybe they didn’t want the kids that night either.)

And the fact remains that we have LAWS today about age of consent. It looks to me like maybe BOTH mothers could have been aware that laws were being broken. How can we know for sure? And I believe ya! I had a childhood friend that was a racist, and it was obvious she had learnt it from her parents. I think most people do. It’s certainly not something we’re born with. But, in this case, I’ve got to say, sadly, it doesn’t surprise me. There is little about the Croslins, Cummings or Sheffields/Griffis that would surprise me.
Where I live, there are lots of racists, and speaking up often turns into a daily battle. I hope one day racism, in all forms, disappears. I hate it.

Pinkey32…I’m sorry you had to hear Ron say that s..t. I can understand your anger…particularly if you’ve been giving him a fair go.
Believe it or not, lots of whites get it…for lots of reasons, and hate it as much as black people. Many white people fought for civil rights along side the blacks, and heterosexuals fight for gay rights. As a white person, I was thrilled to see Obama elected…I reckon even if he isn’t a great president, it will still always be a great thing. My heart sung the day he won, not because I knew much about him and thought he’d be a great president, but simply because he was black, and it was long overdue, and it made me optimistic about the future. I’ve never been so happy about anyone being elected to high office in my life! And I know many whites that feel the same way.
For what it’s worth, Ron will no doubt pay big time for these comments. I expect he will be back in segregation within hours, if he isn’t already, and mixing with the general populations is definitely not going to be safe for him.

The laws are to light and if your sick and tired of being sick and tired, please, keep coming back to this site and getting involved in your community on how you can stop crime, it isn’t only about the small children, it’s about your teen college child as well, also about you and I as adults we can also become victims….Now that’s food for thought….

Well, I haven’t heard the tapes yet, since my sound card doesn’t work, and I have to go and use someone else’s computer to listen, but I don’t think I could really get real involved on this topic of racism simply because the idea of calling people names always made me sick.
& Yes, Karon, I think that what you said extends to the idea that if Ron wasn’t happy, it was Crystal’s fault! It probably took awhile for her to really get the idea. This is how I thought the picture was going to fill in.

I can’t understand why all the hype with Ron’s choice of words, trash is trash. And you will find that it resides in all corners of the earth NO MATTER THE COLOR. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the children also have filthy mouths like the parents I bet they were subject to all kinds of abnormal behavior. like I said in another posting about this group of trash, I bet they played a major role in the childs disappearance but may have been too high to remmember.
Yes i’m sort of judging them because of their behavior as it stands. I’m not sure it’s his mother or gm’s fault that he said this either….though I do think they may have taught it to him, he may have learnt it elsewhere. And you are right re genes…my father had a son (my half brother) who we never met til he was 30 (long story)…he’d never met my father, but he was so much like him personality wise that it was spooky…right down to mannerisms….and he grew up very different to how we did. It freaked me out….genes definitely play a big role in how we come out.

cent…given the jail released the tapes, I would hope they made moves to get him into protection before/as they were released. They could be sued to high heaven if they left him in general if he gets beat up or worse. I never thought he was clever, but this was dumb beyond my imagination.
I am finding it increasingly impossible to believe that either he or Misty could have LE looking at them closely for a year, and not be charged, if they had anything to do with Haleigh’s disappearance. They are both saying such stupid things in their interviews and phone calls. Not to mention, they were silly enough to deal drugs to an undercover, when they must have known LE were watching them. These people are the opposite of smart.
Me, I agree… that’s why I kept going on about the WTTJ Video… and now this!!! There’s something behind LE not yanking that Video off youtube, and releasing this particular call. Next few days should be very telling. Can’t wait for this to be over with, too depressing.

Sadly, I don’t think this will be over with any time soon. I felt confident it was Tommy, but after listening to these three, I’m not so sure anymore. Because if I think it was Tommy, then I have to believe he’s been smart enough to get away with it this long…and either PCSO and the FBI are really dumb to not be able to get the evidence to charge one of these 3, or they have been looking at the wrong people all along, and I am really starting to think that is the case.
What really bothers me about this case is that the public has allowed LE to use the “Misty is the key” excuse to not charge anyone or find Haleigh.
When Lacey went missing, LE didn’t keep saying, “Scott is the key” and use the fact he wouldn’t tell the truth about what happened to Lacey as an excuse not to charge him. And the same with Drew Peterson, they weren’t saying “Drew is the key…he’s been inconsistent” etc. LE can’t expect perps to confess and blame the perps for their failure to solve crimes. It’s their job to investigate. These 3 are about as dumb as you can get….if one of them is responsible, why hasn’t LE got the evidence to charge them? I don’t buy it. I think PCSO has used an uneducated 17 year old as an excuse not to find Haleigh, and everyone has jumped on the bandwagon and let them get away with it. If PCSO were in charge of the Lacey case, would they still be chanting, years later, “Scott is the key” and not charging him?

He should know they do that whether he followed the Anthony case or not.. The do that all the time with Local stories of interist on local news and radio.. Hulk Hogan’s son had his jail house phone calls played on the Radio, TMZ and local news daily.

People here, early on, were crucified for saying Ron was a racist. HE is…Like it or not. Maybe it’s his southern upbringing, most likely is. WHether Father or Mother’s side. Friends & associates too. The best “beard” for a semi-racist is a black or ethnic friend. That way he can always point to that person and say “Look, he’s my friend, see…I’m not a racist.”
I live in FL, and not even as deep as Ron & gang. I am not a racist, but my father tried his adarndest to make me one. I think initially is was just a F U to daddy to have ethnic friends and later boyfriends. Now, I just know it’s wrong. It’s wrong in the same way poor people or the mentally ill are sometimes ridiculed or demeaned. ANyway, I’ve seen his type soooo many times. In their heart, they are prejudiced. They do want to feel a certain amount of privlidge or feel better than SOMEONE. Rather than use his own efforts to better himself, it’s easier to find someone else inferior thus making him SUPERIOR.

In reference to someone defending Ron, I’ve found that often times those of us who are still sticking with this case, after a year, is that we project onto Ron. Feelings we have for someone in our own lives, whether positive or negative (my case). I noticed myself doing this and I see the same from others, in one direction or another. You can sympathize with TN or whomever, without having to excuse or defend Ron’s behaviors. Same with any other player here. Crystal’s latest really struck home with me that THEY ALL are pretty messed up. If Haleigh comes home she is not comming how to Mayberry or Leave It TO Beaver. We need to accept this. Maybe this case has been about drawing awareness to these and other children’s plight. It is sooo different for some. I’ve been telling you guys for a year now….some people live in an entirely different world. There is not squeeky clean in their lives. EVERYONE is on something and afraid of LE. I for one have feared success mostly due to being uncomfortable around successfull people. If you come from this type of a childhood or even early adulthood you feel awkward and shy around successfull people. You fear authority and anyone associated with them. Straight people are scary and untrustworthy as they may turn you or a family member in to LE.

I used to have at least a little sympathy for Ron and I really used to believe he had absolutely nothing to do with Haleigh’s disappearance. However, the more he opens his mouth, the more doubts I have about him. I no longer have ANY compassion or sympathy for him. His lifestyle brought all of this misery to his life. Whether he directly caused Haleigh’s disappearance or not, he is to blame due to the kind of life he leads. And what is even more annoying is that he has learned NOTHING from it. He continued the life of drugs and crime putting Jr’s life in danger. Ron is where he belongs and I hope he rots in jail!
I think what we all need to do at the 1 yr mark, is to step back. Pretend for a moment this is a new case but we know what we know about ALL players involved.

Mom: Drug User/Addicted. (Anyone who would risk loosing not only Jr but Chole as well after finally getting him in her custody by using still, is an ADDICT)Previous allegations of Domestic Violence from Father- previous DV victim. Does not know details in regard to the children, Bi-weekly involvement, allegations of visitation problems caused by Father & family members.
Paternal Grandmother: Sympathetic GMA, Sypathetic to Ron to a fault (Enabler) Chose new lover over son during his youth. Not really involved with the children (Haleigh & Jr) on a daily basis due to geographical constrants or other. Previous allogations against Paternal Grandfather due to domestic violence- Previous victim.
Paternal Great Grandmother: Sympathetic to ALL, even to point of Enabling. Very involved with Ron & Children. Threatened Misty with physical violence if she didn’t take “the tests”. Indications of turning a blind eye to domestic violence from Ron or even encouraging it.
Maternal Grandmother: Previous pot grower, blogger with a personal agenda, Somewhat involved with the children, bi weekly basis.
Also previous allegations of abuse/domestic violence againt Maternal Grandfather-Previous DV victim
Father’s Live-in/wife: Underage when crime occurred, drug user, drug dealer, previous abuse issues, duplicitous, complained about watching people’s children. Fight with Father days before crime occured & just returning on night of crime. Sexual relations with other male while gone for the 3 preceeding days. Inconsistant stements/Timeline to LE
Live-In’s Brother: Drug user, drug dealer, theif/burglar, alleged molester/incest, previous jail experience(s). Domestic Violence abuser-previous & current charges
Now, maybe if we try to forget the personal associations made or felt we can finally get to some truth.
JB – I totally understand where you’re coming from and you’re not wrong.
Certainly R’s lifestyle – in fact what seems to be the generally accepted ( or tacitly accepted/ignored) lifestyle of many people in that community – put Haleigh in a much more vulnerable position than she might have been.
We still have to see if R is directly responsible or who is. As far as “learning” something from it, it doesn’t look like the “other side” did either – until possibly recently and they should be extremely grateful to have another opportunity to do so. Gosh knows there’s room for improvement in a lot of these peoples’ lives.
Anyway I keep reminding myself that plenty of good upstanding wonderful families in wonderful and loving homes have also lost their children. So being a “thug” doesn’t necessarily increase the guilt or lessen the pain. Not making excuses for him. Far from it.
But I can’t “blame” R yet for Haleigh’s disappearance without assigning some similar blame to others close to the children.
I still want to know what happened to Haleigh.

M2C – I’m not ready to hang Ron from a tree for Haleigh’s disappearance but he IS where he belongs. He is FINALLY paying the price for crimes he committed. I know kids go missing all the time and there are a lot of freaks out there waiting for just the right opportunity to snatch a defenseless child. But even LE doesn’t believe this was a stranger abduction and Ron’s actions certainly have not helped this case. I’m frustrated with the whole lot of them. She wrote that after Ron left her home at age 13 and came back a few years later his whole speech patterns had changed him into a “potty mouth.” After hearing the tapes from the Croslin family, I wondered if this filthy talk is generally accepted speech in the deep South (though I do know some articulate Southerners elsewhere).
I thought about the small Cummings and Croslin children starting school and surely this nasty talk would be a very common part of their each sentence. The teachers couldn’t put up with this, I would think.
It dismayed me, too, that illicit sex and crime were just such casual matters to all the Sheffields, Cummings and Croslins. You would think that Hank Croslin, Sr. would have learned something from his experiences and have wanted better for his children. You would think that mom Lisa would have some kind of pride in her appearance and have teeth by now which Meth is unkind to. I think she possibly looked much like Misty in her youth. Hank, Sr. seemed to be quite sensible in his advice to Misty to tell the truth and chastised her for getting into drug trafficking. A good-looking man, he could have made more of himself so his lack of education, his poor choices and the paths he took are indeed a big shame. I have noticed that Ron and Misty have not been seen smoking for a long time in public(no doubt for the criticism that has been received) and possibly the feedback from their vile language will be changed also. I do not hear Teresa nor GGMa Sykes swearing in their interviews. They state they have always gone to church which has to be a big plus in that town.

He said, no, that’s a myth, that girls want more mature things than boys their own age, but they really aren’t ready to handle them.
Things were flying so fast and furious last night I am not surprised if some people thought remarks were aimed at them when they weren’t. It started with a really vicious attack on Crystal, the mother of missing Haleigh, that no decent person, regardless of their opinions on this case, would tolerate. You and most of the other people blogging here overnight are really excellent lovely people and I have no quarrel with such. It was just that one person I was having a problem with.
I’m not particularly worried about whether or not it’s true that girls are always more mature than boys their own age, unless it would turn out to be junk science and someone got a law passed using it, Or used a piece of junk science to convict someone in “the court of public opinion.”
I don’t really understand what you’ve been getting at about Crystal and Ron. Do you think she vamped him??? But this is why we have laws, and I know you agree with that. I think a lot of people would say, “A couple of kids, and we’re asking who seduced whom?” “Who got whom on to drugs?” (But that may be a much more valid question in this case.) If we look at CIRCUMSTANCIAL evidence, there *is* the issue of who has been in the vicinity of GBH and who wasn’t. And who has a PATTERN of many relationships with people much younger than himself?
Of course it may turn out that both Ron and Crystal had absolutely nothing to do with their daughter’s disappearance.

I came back in yesterday and thought I’d start posting again after my mistake the other night…to be honest i am ashamed of what happened that night and Ashamed that i misunderstood Adams when i should have known she’d never be mean just to be mean!

I agree he probably had no DIRECT involvement with the disappearance of his daughter, but he has also done nothing to help find her. No real job, leeching off of who ever will help him, and he is using drugs. I hear he likes to shoot the pain killers into his tattoos so he can hide the marks. Haven’t seen any evidence that the Sheffield’s have anything to do with Haleigh gone missing.

My niece,who was 40 at the time,heard a poem a prisoner had sent in for her (The dj read it on the air over the radio and he’d written in prison for her)after her husband was killed at work,she said she heard the poem and wanted to meet him.so she did,A few month’s later she married him in prison…..spent thousand’s on an attorney to try to appeal his case and he was serving 48 yrs for murder during a drug deal gone bad,she sent his famiy money big time,went to the prison every visitation,had his name tattooed on her,other places pierced for him?,
was banned a few times for showing him the tattoo’s and piercings and this girl you would never have believed it in a million year’s how she sat home for him,waiting incase he called,so like you I do wonder how in the world these women can do that and the fact that she knew she’d never be able to be with him and grow old alone made me wonder but after my husband was actually murdered i certainly didn’t understand how she could marry a man who was capable of doing what was done to my husband!
I would be so curious to know who can explain how this happen’s!

And I think Crystal perhaps felt it was easier just to get on with her life. She should have tried harder for her children and herself. Constantly playing the “weak” card, is NO excuse for her!!

Crystal can change if she wants when your on drugs, drugs, is your main concern not your kids. And usually it would take a tragic incident to clean you up…. I guess Haliegh’s disappearance isn’t tragic enough. I have never seen a drug addict care about anything more than that drug. Ron is detoxing right now his biggest concern is getting that monkey off his back Halieigh would have to be a second thought some other time. Poor child…smh

Ya know being adopted i had alway’s wondered what would make a Mother give her kid’s up and usually,it was money or no home or something the parent couldn’t provide in some cases,
Course that was in earlier day’s but i have never in my life seen anything at all that would turn a parent against their own child the way drug’s do!!Every single day you see it somewhere!! And I do know that you will do thing’s on drug’s you’d never even think of sober!Te drug does drive you!
You can’t sleep w/o them,go out anywhere w/o them,no fun at all w/o them and it is an issue of having it in your head psychologically because when i was addicted to pain killer’s i could not get off the couch w/o them let alone do anything else…you run all over the place to find them and get robbed more times than not but you still go back??
God I am so Thankful today that I am not still in that place in my life,I just never thought i could be happy w/o them.but i have to honestly say..I am so glad!! Not easy,wasn’t for me either but I pray she can,I honestly do,there’s nothing i like more Adam’s than to hear someone say.It’s been 1 day,then 2 then before you know it 1 yr,then 2….LoL I wish there was a magic word somewhere!!!!!!!!!I never thought I’d make it 1 day!

Oh Lord,Shelly my neighbor was a 23 yr old girl and i have to admit the 1st time i saw her she terrified me,really she did,and i could tell by her looks and talk what she was into and one night she flew to my door screaming her head off and i had heard things breaking and thumping the wall.right next to my wall..grrr but she flew over here screaming for me to call 911 and how she even yelled,I will never know…I brought her inside and a guy she just met that day had choked her so bad that his handprints had already turned purple around her entire throat,her mouth and nose were pouring blood and the cops came and the guy names “Jesus” got away…shewwwwww and I am sorry but she didn’t have her kid’s either so i have to admit i was glad she got evicted 2-3 days later!If she’d have had kid’s i wouldn’t have been glad but I know the next call i would have made!!!!! Ya know!

I have to agree with you all on the point that Misty or Ron may not have been involved, misty may have really been sleeping deep from the pills and alcohol did she have a drug test the night of the disappearance? Hmm, but I believe they may have put her (Haleigh) in some type of harms way. Now I believe even if Misty can’t remember that night, I’m sure with their reckless living that alone can play a role, you know with them trafficking drugs and being addicts someone who they may have sold drugs to, or for may have known when to come back to steal Haleigh, so that’s why I blame them in some way. Now as far as the family’s place where they were living at the time of Haleighs disappearance, can play another role in her going missing, we know that in areas like were they reside and the poorest of neighborhoods are where child predators can go unnoticed until a crime happens or police decide to warn the community and mostly when they do warn the community its too late. Hmm wonder how many predators lived in that particular community at the time when Haleigh went missing??

Well, my kinfolk had the kind of standards that made it possible for two people of the opposite sex to get MARRIED very young and raise their children through a depression and a world war and the marriage would stick for 50+ years and they certainly knew what is incest and what isn’t, which apparently you don’t have enough education to know.
