Yes, we should be patient and kind, etc., in the face of our daily trials. That to me means some form of sacrifices by forgoing some of our daily creature comforts, daily attempts to fight our personal self-serving habits and other denials done for the love of God. That to me is what Christ's is teaching us here. Any committed Catholic tries in their own personal ways to fulfil Christ's advice by accepting and embracing our little crosses daily for the love of Him as we strive to imitate His humility, His love for humanity and His mercy. Once I was on my own and began reading the Bible and really studying about the origins of many religious practices I realized that most of these self abuse activities were incorporated into the church from non-christian religions. Even the cross was pagan. To make a long story short Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law so that christians would not have to practice sacrifice, etc. to gain redemption. All a real christian has to do is obey God Almighty and remain faithful to his Son Jesus. Please think about this. No one can earn forgiveness. It's futile.
