On October 17th, 20 year old Morgan Harrington had big plans on attending a Metallica Concert with some of her friends. With the help of her mother, she chose to wear a black Pantera T-shirt, a black mini-skirt, black tights and knee high black boots. She left about noon telling her mother goodbye by using their special greeting saying “Two, four, one, Mama” which was short to them meaning, “I love you too much, forever and one more time.” This was the last time Gil Harrington saw her daughter.
That night she apparently got separated from her friends at the Metallica Concert in Charlottesville and she ended up outside the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena and she couldn’t get back in. She did manage to call one of her friend at the concert telling them not to worry about her, that she would find her own way home but sad as it may be, she never made it home.
She was last seen about 9:30 that night walking alone on a railroad bridge near the arena. Witnesses told police that she appeared to have a scratch on her chin but they don’t think it could have been from any attack on her. Her purse and cell phone were found the next day in a grassy lot used for overflow parking.
About 10 am this morning, Tuesday January 26, 2010 the police got a call from a resident who reported that he found human remains buried in the Anchorage Farm of David Bass near Interstate 64 southwest of Charlottesville.
A press release was held later and Colonel Steven Flaherty, the superintendent of the Virginia State Police, said “based on evidence… we’re fairly confident that the remains are those of Morgan Dana Harrington.”
Flaherty said that they “cannot release the evidence that leads us to this conclusion at this particular time.” But the owner of the farm Bass said that there were some clothes found near the remains also.
My heart goes out to Dan and Gil Harrington. They must be torn apart waiting to hear if this is their daughter. On January 12th Gil had posted a note saying:
“I remind myself that this is not in my hands and that the truth cannot be hidden forever—it will out. I pray that the truth of this crime shows itself while Morgan is still alive. I have no interest in recovering a body. I would rather not know and always have some morsel of hope.”
Morgan was close to her parents and visited them and her brother Alex often in Roanoke. Her family said that Morgan has a close circle of friends and that she loved to curl up with books. She spent her high school summers working with children who have witnessed domestic violence.
I am sure this young lady will be missed dearly. God bless her family especially while they mourn for their daughter. My prayers certainly will include them.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackMy condolences to her family. How awful. She seemed like such a beautiful and lovely young woman and her loved ones must be devastated. I am sooo sorry and hope they catch the person who did this to her.
This is very sad. And also a strange place to put a body. I would be afraid to drive 1 and a half miles down that road in the first place. It is past a gate on private property.
It is on private property, 1-1/2 miles from Hwy 29. From what I have heard, if they were driving, they would have driven up to the house (unlikely, and with nothing out there would have been heard) and then walked. The owner had to walk for 30 minutes to get back to the house after he found the skeleton. I think it is more likely that they knew the farm, stopped on the side where she was found (not near the house) on Hwy 29, and walked her in (from Marc Klaas tonight). Really glad that NG did not yell at Marc Klaas tonight, by the way. From the looks of it, they couldn’t have driven up the driveway and then walked. But JMO.
Another dreadful ending to a beautiful young life. I pray they find the creep or creeps responsible for this and justice is served. I still don’t understand why she tried walking away from the arena and didn’t call her folks, a cab, something. A very pretty girl dressed in a mini skirt, knee high boots, tights, etc., would make a enticing target for a lot of freaks. If only she would have called someone for a ride or when she contacted her friends inside the concert they would have been concerned enough to come outside with her. Still not sure how the heck she ended up outside the arena and unable to get back in. That has never really made sense to me. Was she drinking? Doing drugs? Was her mind clouded by some substance and that is why she opted to walk instead of calling someone for a ride? How far away was this arena from where she was trying to walk? I have more questions than answers frankly. However, the end result is the same I guess….this beautiful young lady with her whole life ahead of her is no longer with us and SOMEONE needs to be held accountable!
So sad for her mom and dad,my hearts are with them, and who to say it was a total stranger that did this?,it seems to me alot of the college students went to this concert,i am thinking it was a student that knew this area well and knew morgan, she seemed like a level headed girl and would not leave with a stranger,i guess time will tell WHO
I can’t imagine what her parents and family are going thru. No parent should ever have to bury their children. Morgan was a beautiful girl and a lot people will truly miss her but she will never be forgotten. I did not know Morgan or her family but I live in Roanoke, and have been praying for her to safe return. I feel some connection with them, just for living in Roanoke, and being a mom. I pray for her family to heal in time. I woke up a 5am today and thought about them. Thinking is this all a dream, & I am not related. So, I know that her family wakes up (if they can even sleep) and think is this a dream, plz let it be a dream and make it go away. I will pray for them to heal in time, pray that this will never happen to another person, and that the person(s) that did this horrible act of violence are found and pay for what they did to that beautiful young lady. God Bless!
