An Oklahoma Amber Alert has been issued for an 8 year old child, Aja (which is pronounced Asia) Johnson. She was last seen in Geronimo Oklahoma which is about 15 miles south of Lawton.
The Comanche County Sheriff’s Office believes that Aja was abducted sometime before 9 pm on Sunday, January 24, 2010.
Aja has been described as being a white female that stands 4 ft, tall and she weighs about 65 lbs. She has brown hair and brown eyes and she has a very thin build.
The suspect that they believe took Aja is Lester Hobbs, Aja’s step-father. He is described as a white male, 47 years old, about 5 ft 9 in. tall. He weighs 180 lbs. In the photo of Hobbs it shows him with a mustache and goatee but he no longer wears the goatee.
He is believed to be driving a white 1992 Toyota Paseo Oklahoma license plate number 577BPW. The cars back window has been replaced with a piece of sheet metal and the 2-door car has no hubcaps.
Police found Aja’s mother Tonya Hobbs, 37, dead inside her RV where she and Aja was visiting her estranged husband at his sister’s home. The Sheriff’s office considers Hobbs as a person of interest in connection with the death of Aja’s mother.

PLEASE let this little angel be okay! If this guy is capable of murder, what ELSE is he capable of. Jan, please keep us posted on any updates….why was the mother murdered? Any criminal record on this guy? Yet another baby to add to our ever growing prayer list!
My goodness what a horrible story. I hope Aja is doing ok, but this man if he has her and he did in fact kill her mom he is heartless and unpredictable. Aja may not have a chance unless he spared her. He has no reason to harm her her mom is already gone. Most times when you want to hurt a mother you take or do the unthinkable to her children and since mom is gone she can’t witness what’s done to her little girl so hopefully he will spare little Aja.
I am 35-years-old I am young but yet my heart is so heavy, all the things I have seen and lived through in this life has wore my heart down and I can’t stand it anymore. Everyday some child/person is missing on top of that they end up being killed, why? Isn’t it enough that their taken, why hurt them? I just can’t understand it. for everyone who hurt or harm a child there is a special place for them
their soul shall suffer for all of eternity.
I grew up in Lawton. On Fort Sill army base. Where they are talking about is near geronomos Bluff it is pretty desolate land with lots of rattlers from what I remember. There are not too many places to hide in this area it is really flat and you can see for miles. I hope they find her soon.jmo
My take:
Mother was estranged from this man due to sexual abuse allegations. He convinced the mom that it was untrue, hence the reconcilliation. Then she caught him in the act. He killed the mom and took off with the child to continue abusing her. He will likely kill her as well.
This is not known info just my own gut instinct & speculations. This is what I expect to hear next.

This is why I always say in my blog postings it is soooo important we do a thorough back ground checks on our partners on any stranger who comes into our lives especially for our children sake. Time has showed us that most children are hurt because of the situation adults put them in.
I am not dogging on men here; but, let me say this… ladies it is not enough anymore for us to feel like this man is a nice person or he’s a good provider or good lay or just because he’s nice to the kids men molest children every day more so than women. so its a big chance if your on the dating scene you may pick up a molester be aware do a back ground check and spend more than 1 year with the guy before he moves in and become daddy to your children just like predators prey on children they also prey on the vulnerable lonely woman who has children they want to get next to let’s take better care of these babies plz.
The guy has a long list of crimes. I pray they find the little girl safe and sound. The truth is every hour that passes the chances are worse and worse. Please woman be smarter then this. Watch all men in and out of your life. There is predators out there everywhere. I keep her and her family in my thoughts and prayer. When I lay down tonight I will hold my babies extra tight. Lester Hobbs has prior convictions. Court records
show that Tonya Hobbs filed for an emergency protective order in August
2009 on the grounds of child abuse. That was in Lincoln County. When
officers went to serve him he was no longer working at his job and had
fled. On August 18 neither party appeared for the hearing on the
matter and the case was dismissed.
Geronimo
is located about 15 miles south of Lawton, Oklahoma just east of state
highway 281/277 which is also SW 11th Street in Lawton. Please stay
alert in the Lawton area. Also stay alert along a possible route going
through Walters, Corum, Comanche and Waurika, as well as all points
south on H.E. Bailey Turnpike toward Wichita Falls, Texas. Authorities
suspect Hobbs may be headed toward his sister’s home in Davenport,
Oklahoma. Davenport is just east of Chandler, Oklahoma and just south
of I-44. This would take Hobbs up H.E. Bailey Turnpike, through or
around the Oklahoma City metro area and headed toward Tulsa on I-44.
Please be alert for the vehicle along this route.
DO NOT APPROACH VEHICLE OR SUSPECT IF SEEN – CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY. HOBBS IS CONSIDERED ARMED AND DANGEROUS.
“[They] were visiting Hobbs’ estranged
husband at his sister’s home,” said Jessica Brown, the bureau’s public
information director. “Lester William Hobbs, the estranged husband, and
Aja are [now] missing.”
This
alleged incident is not the first time Lester Hobbs has had trouble
with the law. According to court records, he has multiple convictions
for assault, burglary and driving under the influence. In addition,
Tonya Hobbs had filed for a protective order against Hobbs in August,
but police were unable to locate him and the matter was later dropped
when neither he nor Tonya Hobbs showed up for a previously scheduled
court appearance.
“We believe they
could be headed to Texas, Oregon or California in those three places
because Mr. Hobbs has relatives in all three of those places. We just
don’t know where he’s headed at this time. He’s a transient and he
really doesn’t haven’t ties except for those relatives in California,
Oregon and Texas.”
He also has relatives in Texas, Oregon and Bakersfield, Calif.
He apparently got custody in an emergancy injunction in Nov. SInce the Hobbs & her mom didn’t show up for court in her child abuse case, I guess dad got custody. He only let her go for an overnight visit to attend a cousin’s birthday party.

m2c, good link, isn’t this so sad. If that mom would have just stayed away from that man. If it had previously been so bad she had filed child abuse on him why was she taking her daughter around him this time? So, so sad.

And how many, many times has this kind of thing happened? It’s mind-boggling and tragic.
And I don’t know how to prevent it. That depends on the root of the problem in each case.
Is the root of it that the mother is naive, or doesn’t believe that “this can happen to me?”
Or what? In any case it seems that concern for a child’s safety is not the primary objective or value. (I’m assuming a lot here and also talking about such cases in general, not this one specifically).
Good morning m2c, I think sometimes it is being naive, like you say, can’t happen to me….
Other times, I think it is flat selfishness, putting there own wants to be with the man above the welfare of the child. In this case one thing is certain, she regretted her choice and now many grieving people are regretting and having to live with it’s consequences. I feel sorry for all the family. Her poor dad, so regrets letting her go, yet you know he was just trying to let them have time together.

I don’t know where all the information above came from and I do understand that apparently Tonya Hobbs put a profile on Yahoo at Christmas.
So I guess whatever info she posted is fair game to whoever wants to look it up.
But I do not understand the purpose of publishing that information - her address and phone number? now that she is the victim of a homicide. I believe that’s the kind of information that LE often redacts from reports.
And the names of people who are apparently related to the accused? The purpose of that is…?
I’m sorry but to me being the victim of a horrible tragedy does not give license to open up all this info for the public. If someone wants to go find it for themselves fine. But publish it on a public blog? To what purpose that serves any good at all? I am at a loss.

Tobias, nothing I said was nasty. And I would feel the same way no matter who posted such information (with no explanation for its relevance)
I don’t think it does ANYTHING to help find a little girl. I think it’s a needless invasion of peoples’ privacy. And yes I do think some nutto would call that number to be a nuisance or some self-appointed snoop (and there are MANY) would call to try to find out anything to make a name for themselves in the news or on the net.
Who are the people listed with the same last name as if they are related to the accused? I have not heard they are implicated in this yet.
Did the police put out this info and ask us to be on the look out for those people? And there are probably more than one person with those names all over the country! I feel sorry for them.
I just place a higher value on respect for others and their privacy than some do. I expressed that. How that can be any worse than what I objected to, I have no idea.
I live in New York City I haven’t seen a report on any of the children that’s posted here on this blog site. The media do a horrible job on looking for missing people.
Even little Marc Anthony Bookal I haven’t heard nor seen a flyer across this city yet and little Marc’s disappearance happened in my home state smh. half the crap on tv Isn’t worth anything it feeds the mind of the demented and mentally sick. They should do a telethon on missing people you’ll be surprise how many folks would support that cause. Or is tiger woods sexual healing hiatus better six o clock news..SMH

All TV stations would have to do is give a 10 or 15 second public service announcement kind of thing every hour to show the photo and description of a missing child. But do they? Nope.
And the news orgs web sites! Plenty of space on the home pages to show photos and remind people about missing children but do they?
No.
And remember after America’s Most Wanted had been on Fox for a few years, the network was going to cancel it. Why? Because they’re stupid and I guess they thought it was not making ENOUGH money! Fortunately there was a huge public outcry and they kept the program

Sometimes what a person has been up to can give you insight into what their state of mind was. I posted he myspace link because it showed that she had a nood of lonely, I thought that it played into why she might have tried to reconcile with Hobbs.

There is truly not enough coverage on this story. I had to search really hard for updates on this case. If it was my child you better know that I would want it posted on ever t.v. all over the world. Ever website and all. I think that there is not enough information or anything on this case. I think that people should care more about other people then they do. It’s all about what sells and a little girl lost just dont do it.
HGm: The info is great! I only questioned a couple bits of it.
When my dad got custody of Aja Tonya beacame ery sick in and out of the hospital. My dad did see where Tonya was trying to get her life back together and become a better mom to Aja. She was spending more quality time with her helping with home work etc… My dad did let Aja stay the night with Tonya’s mom(grandma and Tonya a couple of times and Aja came home with no issues. my dad was begining to trust Tonya again and she told him on serveral ocassions that she wanted nothing more to do with Lester. Had my dad know Tonya was lieing about the birhtday party and going to see him he never would have let Aja go and he regrets trusting her again everyday since this happened.
