Blogging from PHOENIX –David Keller– Authorities report that 23 year old Elizabeth Johnson, The Tempe Arizona mother who created a National media firestorm when she claimed in a text message to having killed her 8 month old baby was returned to Phoenix early Sunday.
Johnson has been held in a Miami jail since December 30, She later recanted her text confession about killing the boy and subsequently claimed to have given Gabriel to a San Antonio couple she doesn’t know. She says she gave Gabriel away to prevent the baby’s father, Logan McQueary, 25, from gaining custody. The Tempe Arizona police brought Johnson from Miami-Dade County, Fla., and booked her into the Fourth Avenue jail early Sunday morning. Johnson is being held on a $1.1 million dollar cash bond. She faces multiple felony charges including kidnapping, child abuse and custodial interference. Deputy Doug Matteson the Maricopa County sheriff’s spokesperson, deferred comment to Tempe police because they are the department responsible for investigating the case. Tempe police were not available for comment Sunday. The Tempe police have searched for Gabriel since Johnson failed to show for a custody hearing in Maricopa County Superior Court on December 28, a judge then awarded the father Logan McQueary custody of the baby.
A bench warrant for custodial interference was issued against Johnson and she was arrested in Miami on December 30 without her son. Gabriel was last seen December 26 in San Antonio Texas. The next day, Johnson sent McQueary the text message saying she had killed Gabriel. She refuses to tell authorities where the boy is located. San Antonio police and FBI agents found Johnson’s car January 5 at the Motel 6 located on Interstate 35, but found no sign of baby Gabriel. Last week, Tempe police named a Scottsdale Arizona couple Jack and Tammi Smith, who were hoping to adopt Gabriel, as “persons of interest” in the case. The couple first met Johnson at the airport, where the mother offered up the boy for adoption. In an interview last week, Tammi Smith said she had texted and spoke with Johnson up until Johnson’s arrest last month. Tammie Smith said she was trying to find out where baby Gabriel was and attempted to coax Johnson into returning to Arizona.
Prior to her early morning return today, Johnson was scheduled for an extradition hearing January 19 in Miami. Authorities advise that whoever has Gabriel can leave the baby at a safe place, such as a fire station or hospital should they be afraid to come forward.

I saw an interview with them, dancing around most questions, yet when it came time for the LDT question, they lit up, couldn’t help themselves, had to describe it as “not like you see on TV, you’re strapped in”. What the hell is that?? I don’t know who is worse, the wife or her silly acting husband. If they want to be forthcoming and volunteer some info… tell where the baby is at!!
The Smith’s are hinky. They were not trying to help Elizabeth (who obviously has major problems), they have lied (most significantly about what they know, now we find out that Tammi is actually the person who gave Elizabeth the gps/Garmin), and they have gone on TV like they are now some kind of media stars while falsely stating the father was abusive. They also forgot to tell us one convenient little fact, they unethically and possibly illegally adopted another child they claim belongs to Jack’s daughter as the son-in-law has now come forward. They knew all along that Elizabeth had contact with Janet Morris in Tennessee, because they put her in contact with her. Her three children, who live with their father because she lost custody, claim she is lying and seeking media attention. Jack’s best friend on myspace is a porn star while Tammi quotes bible verses on facebook saying how other will be damned. They are both into this up to their eyeballs and now Tammi claims she is interviewing Elizabeth at the jail tonight. Arrest them.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that Janet Morris is affiliated with The Adoption Place in Tennessee. If you look them up, you will see they have also tried to adopt out babies by taking away the fathers rights. Significantly, there is a case (2005, 2007, 2008) where it looks like the state actually filed for a John Doe father because The Adoption Place didn’t make much effort to find him (a John Doe). If you look at Tammi’s online history you will see that she and Jack have contacted many many women about being surrogates (in one Tammi is looking for a military wife who lives in California). Tammi is always asking if they already have insurance, that way they can get babies on the cheap and not have to pay for a surrogates medical care (is it legal to have your insurance pay for you to have a baby that you are giving or selling to someone else?). On one site Tammi is encouraging a girl in high school to be a surrogate (the girl is willing to do it cheap) while others are posting that it is unethical to encourage this girl. The list goes on and on. I hope Hannah’s father gets her back. I hope Logan gets Gabriel back, safe and sound. I hope these people are charged with extortion, baby brokering, and whatever else they are guilty of.

Someone needs to look into her religious affiliations and her church, and the adoption connections just to see what is going on and if children are being brokered or young pregnant women who are vulnerable are being coerced into giving up their rights.

“You know, I hope baby Gabriel is in Nashville,” Jack said. “I can’t tell you, and I couldn’t tell you. One thing I can tell you, is if they do find him in Nashville, it has nothing to do with us.”
Funny, huh… yeah, it would just be coincidental if Gabriel were found in Nashville.
I think the Smiths are in on this up to their necks. They know where that baby is, and they may wind up in jail before this is over. They like the attention, for sure.

So now the “Smiths” are “persons of interest” in this case. I think they helped this freakazoid do an illegal adoption of the baby without the father’s consent. I truly believe they KNOW where he is but will never tell. The mother won’t tell because she didn’t have custody and had no right to give him up for adoption. The charges agaist her will stay no matter whether she tells the truth or not and she is so whacked she doesn’t care if she is behind bars or not. She just doesn’t want the daddy to have his child. Her own grandfather spoke to her this weekend in jail and said she was upbeat and happy. This tells me she gave the baby up and thinks no one will ever find him and I believe these freaks, the Smiths, helped her. I’m anxious to see what the LDT’s say about the Smiths but not sure we’ll ever know. Is Elizabeth related to Casey Anthony? Distant cousin perhaps? They sure act a lot alike! FREAKS! Neither deserves the title of “mother”.

My research suggests that this is a phenomenon consistent throughout the industrialized nations. I just have a feeling that she didn’t hurt or murder her child. I believe she had help in hiding the child. Whatever her reason, I don’t know. She is the one who lived with the bio father so maybe she knows something about him that no one else knows. I saw part of the interview with the bio dad and he seemed a very unemotional person, cool as a cucumber considering that his baby is missing and might be dead.
I don’t know what to think about the Smiths’. But my feeling is they are good people. And if they did help her to hide the child from the bio dad then I think they did it with a good heart and was thinking of the child.

And to scottdavene: My kids haven’t seen their father in over 10 years due to the fact that he was an abusive nut-job. Wouldn’t getting beat and locked in a closet when Mom was at work give kids emotional/behavioral problems as well?
I think that maybe someone was sending her money by WU or MoneyGram so that she could keep on moving and shopping. So maybe all those places were she was at get a list of all the WU and MoneyGrams that was sent. If she gave the baby to someone maybe they was sending her money so that she could keep on moving shopping and being on the run. This was just and Idea that I had and hope that the police get a list of all the WU and Money gram wire Transfers. After all she did not have a job and to get her nails done and be on the run with a Baby? Wow

This woman didn’t care about her baby…she just didn’t want the dad to have the baby. She was the one that left the baby in a dirty diaper all day while the dad was at work and then screamed at the dad to shut the baby up when he got home. She is the one who has had DFS investigating her in the past for child neglect. She is the one who was wanting to give the baby up because SHE didn’t want to be burdened with a child. SHE is the one who cut up the baby’s clothes, crib, furniture, etc., in a rampage. She has anger issues. She almost seems bipolar…one minute happy the next minute psycho and angry. I have seen NOTHING about the dad that tells me he is a bad father. He may not be SUPER DAD, but he certainly is a bazillion times better than the mother (and I use that term loosely). The father has EVERY right to raise his child. This lunatic needs to tell everyone what she REALLY did with this baby. Dang nutjob!
And just like Casey Anthony, this so called “mother” hated her boyfriend (mother in Casey’s case) more than she loved her child. This was ALL done as revenge against him.

Lillian Glass just analyzed Gabriel’s mother on her blog on body language. She seemed to think drugs and, possibly, mental problems might play a part in this. She said Elizabeth didn’t seem truly alert. She, also, said she is a little suspicious of the Smith’s part in all of this. She said their actions and body language didn’t look quite right.
She did believe Elizabeth when she said Gabriel was alive when she saw him, last.
Look I just saw this nut Tammy Smith on Television. She was talking about these court papers that she and Elizabeth filed to dispute the paternity of Gabriel. The ones where they put Tammy’s first cousin who has never met Elizabeth as Gabriels father. Tammy said with a strait face, yes I told her to put that name because rather than just make up any old name I thought it would be better……..Like she is pretending on the news that she is some upstanding person because she got this girl to file court papers keeping the baby from his dad by putting her first cousin as the father..Tammy’s first cousin…to dispute Logans paternity…and is acting like that is so much better than ELizabeth just making up some name out of thin air….Why would it be better?………..For purposes of illegal adoption?
David that is awful. Which program was Tami on when she said that? I heard some comments about the Smith’s pulling some sneaky underhanded things to get the baby they have now away from it’s father. I know I haven’t trusted them. Their body language is screaming dishonesty!
Please Lord let this gorgeous baby be well cared for and loved and found and returned safe! I don’t think this mother should have the right to remain silent. what abut the babies rights? I SAY TORTURE HER AND MAKE HER TELL WHERE THE BABY IS!
I just googled the father ‘logan mcqueary’ and he has a myspace account. I was looking at pics of dad and son, and the resemblance is remarkable, he looks like dad.
does anyone believe in dreams? I had a dream last night, or it could be from all the publicity, that I found baby gabriel, but was unable to contact the authorities..so I believe he is alive, but the authorities may take awhile to get him back, just like the case of the boy in custody in that south american country..any comments?
is it true that Jack & Tammi Smith have adopted a new baby girl (reportedly made by Jack’s daughter Nicki at the urging of her stepmother Tammi?) and that Tammi is pursuing a plea deal to keep from going to trial in Nov? it seems wrong, somehow. that the smiths are delighting in a new child while logan mcqueary is still forced to search for his.
