Marc Anthony Bookal is only 4 years old. I would hardly say that is old enough to be out in the world facing life alone. I can’t imagine him knowing where he is or where he is going to.
Well on December 14, 2009 his mother’s live in boyfriend, 30 year old Cory Byrd was getting ready to take Marc along with him to visit relatives and apparently left the front door of the family apartment on Benkard Avenue in Newburgh NY, open while getting ready to go and he claims little Marc walked out the door and hasn’t been seen since.
Marc stands about 3 ft. 5 in. tall and he weighs about 42 pounds. He is a light skinned black boy with medium length sandy brown afro and brown eyes. When he was last seen he was wearing a red long sleeved shirt and gray sweatpants. He had on a pair of white Nike sneakers. He also has blotches on his skin on the back of his hands from a previous burn injury.
According to Lt. Charles Broe Jr. of the city of Newburgh Police Department, the officers doing the ground search has stopped their search for Marc.
“The detectives from my agency and the investigators from the state police have been actively working the case from day one, and continue to do so,” Broe said Sunday in an e-mail. “Once we covered the entire southeast area of the city, and the river on multiple days, we concluded the ground search part of the investigation. This is not anything new, or anything to do with the weather.”
They had divers out searching in a stretch of the Hudson River where a dog had picked up the scent of the child not long after he disappeared but they found nothing.
The boyfriend has been arrested and charged with child endangerment and also on a parole violation from a prior conviction of felony counts of assault and criminal sale of a controlled substance.
I pray the child’s whereabouts don’t become a cold case. He is in my prayers every day and night that he will be found soon as is the list of children I have that I pray for every night. I pray that one day the ones alive will be brought home and the ones that have been taken from us are found so their family’s can find some peace and closure. I also pray for the ones that have been found dead. It has to be so hard for their families, so I pray for some kind of peace brought to them to help them cope with the loss of their precious child.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackJan, I am so sorry to hear this. I had hopes that they would find he had been removed by a concerned party, since his “caretakers” had been…well…negligent on several occassions, including Marc’s disappearnce. I am very afraid that Cory Byrd killed him. I don’t know how he would have. I think police suspect that he put him in the river to drown or that Marc had just fallen in, or that he was placed there post-mortem. I hope that it isn’t true but fear that it is. I think that Cory is a very dangerous man and may have had enemies who wouldn’t mind using a child to get back at him. We may never know. How, in the middle of the day, in that neighborhood, did Marc just go un-noticed? The apartment rows face each other, there is small stores & resteraunts just doors down…how could he have just walked away or been taken without ANYONE seeing something??? Anyway, thank you for the update. I had also hoped to post an updated article about Marc, Adji, and Hassani…maybe you could add this update and link to my article.

Whenever these poor children go missing or murdered the killer is generally someone they know and it always seems to be the boyfriend of the bio mother or aunt, such as Hasanni Campbell, Dae’von Bailey et al. When are we going to lock up their murderers before they commit another crime. The justice system, foster care, law enforcement have all failed these children. We are living amongst a group of people who are monsters and no one cares about poor children. The only ones who get attention are the offspring of the rich. Not even the DA’s offices care. I should know, I was dating a doctor who eventually killed his wife. I am lucky to be alive but what hope does a poor small child have. The justice system in this country is a joke and a cruel one.
