We are going to get a very good health care bill for which we should all be grateful. And the support pf groups like CHA has been very helpful in getting to the point we are. I thank Catholic health care leaders for their support for national health care!! God bless them.

Neo, a child with disabilities is eligible for health care under present day government programs.

As for all those "complications" that need abortions, they are rare, and if life threatening, they will be paid for.

and notice the comments: The bishops and the CHA support health care reform, but not this bill, and that is the point. The reporter didn't ask for the updated health bill that was rushed through on Christmas eve, when everyone was in church or with families, not updating web sites.

Neo, you have no idea what you are talking about. And if I am wrong, then you are simply a liar. It's either/or. (Or perhaps both/and.) Either way... you are wrong wrong wrong! :) Have a nice day!

Then why does the CHA still imply they support the reform on their website? And why is there no official announcement?

Could it be that the association hasn't reached a consensus? And some feel that Matthew 25:35-46 is equally important to stopping abortion if the status quo is mantained.

propaganda? Sister Carol Keehan may have said that, however there still is no official release from the CHA overall. There website still implies support for the health care changes.

Please don't make the truth more obtuse by doing what you claim the Times was doing by cherry picking comments. The CHA is not unified on this, and neither is the US Council of Bishops although they at least made a public statement for all to see.

I think its just as disingenuous to say that everyone including the us bishops conference is unified on this. There is dissent. Some bishops are saying its just as bad to deny health care to a baby born with a birth defect as it is to allow that baby to be aborted. Which is exactly the situation we have. Either way a senator would have committed a moral evil at least the way the bishops have framed the debate.

Remember this is not black and white. And I also think its disingenuous to define abortions the way the bishops have. Most medical abortions also known as D&C would not be allowed if the bishops had their way. I think some of the bishops should shadow an OB/GYN for awhile and see just how many complications there are in pregnancy and see just how many deaths they would be causing by not allowing D&Cs, and how hard OB/GYNs try to avoid the procedure.

I also think that if the Roman Catholic Church care so much for life after birth then we need to put our money where our mouth is. We should be paying for the health care of all babies born that are currently not covered. Especially those born with defects. Abortion is not the disease its the symptom, we need to start having health care available to all.

If we aren't going to have the state do it then we should do it.
