My husband Simon and I have been covering missing children cases since July 2008 when I first heard about little Caylee Marie Anthony missing. Neither of us knew covering this story would turn into a series of missing children cases. Never in my wildest dreams was I even aware of the fact that so many in our own country went missing as they do.
Normally you hear or read one or two reports about them and then that is it. Sometimes you have to go snooping around later to find out if the child was ever found. You wonder if they were found, were they dead or alive.
Well we have been trying to keep the cases alive as much as we can and when we slip up and leave some out it is never intentional. We care about all the children that are in danger. We don’t care what their race or nationality is. What does that have to do with an innocent child being in danger anyway? I don’t go by that as to whether or not I will follow the case. A child is a child no matter what color their skin is or what country they are from. All children are defenseless and they should never be put in danger where their lives are on the line. I have a heart big enough to where there is enough room to care about all these children.
On October 29th I reported about a little three year old girl, Masaraha Ross, that was missing and believed to be with her mother Ronkeya Holmes and neither of them had been seen. A few days later I reported that the FBI got involved because they believed the mother and child could be in danger.
Holmes’s mother, Edith Fletcher said that her daughter had let the child stay with her father in Winter Haven Florida while she attending classes at Savannah Technical College. Something just didn’t feel right when she tried to make the arrangements to bring the child home.
“She would call and say let me talk to Masaraha or I am coming to get her,” said Fletcher. “He would always say she is sleeping or out of town. Months went by and I told her to just go and get her and when she got there he wouldn’t give her to her.”
Holmes was supposed to be meeting her daughter’s father, Lester Ross in the Wal-Mart parking lot in to pick her daughter up from a visit with her father. Fletcher said she hadn’t seen or heard from her daughter or granddaughter since.
Police found the mother’s car but it was Lester’s cousin that was driving the car. Police found inside the car baby clothes and shoes, a child’s book and toys in the back seat. On the front seat they found a suitcase with women’s clothing inside it and Holmes’s college badge hanging from the rear view mirror. Fletcher feels that those things were planted in the cover as a cover up for something.
Lester Ross claims he handed his daughter over to her mother at a Haines City, Wal-Mart store but he has since been carefully avoiding any contact with law enforcement since making that claim.
Holmes’s family members have managed to put together $2000 for a reward hoping it will help freshen someone’s memory about seeing Homes and Masaraha or perhaps to get them to come forth with any information they might have to help find the two of them.

i wonder what kind of search is being conducted for these two people. obviously masaraha’s father is not looking for her. i hope the tip money brings in the answer to where mother and child are. someone have compassion for edith fletcher and tell her what you know. tell her where her daughter and granddaughter are if you know!
i pray that masaraha and ronkeya can be found and brought home.

Jan… it sounds a lot like the Zoelina and Jashon Williams case out here in the Bay Area.
And not to start a ruckus, Yet,I hate to say it, but, I do believe that Race does play a part in the lack of media coverage of these missing babies. Very sad and unfortunate.

true cent, but I was talking about with Simon and I. Race doesn’t have anything to do with who we report on. Like I always say a child missing is a child missing, it makes no difference to me as to what color their skin is or if the family has money or if the family lives in the poor side of town. The child’s welfare is what matters and should be taken care of. If they are missing it should get the attention it needs in order to find them. I know I can’t cover but a tiny fraction of those missing but I do try to get who I can.
My heart is with all these children and I wish I could do more for them.
They are precious gifts from God and should be treated as so.

Jan, I understand race never plays apart with you guys.. I was talking about the over all coverage of media… like you said we hear 1 or 2 reports. That is one of the reasons why I was thanking you. God Bless you and Simon too.
hello cent, i was wondering if you think that these two are being searched for - in a physical sense? maybe the police and fbi need an idea where to look before they search.
at first i was angry that the father could lose his child and is not legally accountable for that. but, then i realized it is a case of l.r. saying m.r. was handed over to the mom and then masaraha went missing. and is there anyone to prove any different?
1. if there is no other witness but l.r. saying masaraha was last with her mom? and
2. when is the last time a witness saw m.r. in l.r.’s care? i mean if m.r. was seen in the days before her mom (r.h.) came to get her than it would be possible, l.r. is telling the truth, so i can understand l.r. not being in legal trouble. but, since l.r. has acknowledged handing the baby over to r.h. (mom), l.r. acknowledges masaraha was in his care up to that point. so when did anyone else last see masaraha in the care of her dad. if there are no other witnesses for days, weeks, months, i hope they can charge him with something. l.r. has to know something and should be accountable for the whereabouts of his daughter. and if l.r. is the last person to see r.h. too, i cannot believe they cannot push this guy to tell more. would obstruction of justice fit??
well i really hope it is a case of her taking her daughter somewhere. but, why would she not call her mom or someone and say so??? why would she give up her car??? and give up her car to l.r.’s relatives???
well i hope the police/fbi can find out what is going on.

I don’t know that much about the case, only what Jan has written about. However, I’m thinking foul play. I would be seriously shocked if there is camera footage of the physical custody transaction at WalMart. Even if there is… why didn’t the father allow the mom to speak to her daughter Masaraha, why was his cousin driving the “missing” mom’s car?
Sadly…I believe that the FBI’s involvement is on the money.
cent, thank you for answering. i agree. i am just hoping the police have laws to allow them to pursue what happened to masaraha if she did disappear on her dad’s watch. it sure sounds like that is when she really disappeared. i hope the police will go by who last saw masahara besides her dad.
there is no amber alert because of l.r.’s statement that m.r. is with her mother.

It’s a tragic situation. I just don’t understand folks. If you don’t want to be bothered with your child, then walk away. I’d rather see that happen than a child hurt/murdered. It makes me wonder if he was abusive towards the mom and child when they were in a relationship.
You know Ms.P I to thought the little girl was already put somewhere else and she never even got too see her mother. I believe the dad has everything to do with with their disappearances. There is no telling how long the little girl was not in his care prior to the mother coming to pick her up.
one thing is for sure..you can not go on what you hear in the media. Mr Ross has cooperated with the police. in fact he has taken 5 polygraph test and past them all. that is why the police department is saying he is not a suspect. he has complied with all of the police demands and still the media attempts to punish him for being a father.

i hope someone asks or demands if necessary to the media to correct or update the facts. also,
i hope the media is publishing the reward that is being offered. maybe it will help to get someone to come forward with what they know. i can only imagine what everyone who loves m.r. and r.h. must be going through. i am praying that somehow they both turn up safe and sound. ms. p.

I hope that she returns home safe and sound to her family. She was a sweet person. She lost her husband in 2002 to an untimley death Mr.Shane Holmes. My prayers and thoughts got out to her and her family. May God be with her, may God prect and guide her home safe.
I feel the police are not doing enough to make Lester Homles talk he knows something, he knows what happen. Ronkeya is my God daughter I know she would not just walk away from her family she loved them and she knew it, she was making a life for her and her two daughters. She is a kind hearted person.I just pray also that God keep her safe and bring her home to us. It has been to long we want her home.

I totally agree that enough is not being done. Lester ROSS knows more then he is saying and someone needs to get him and Joe talking.
I was in a relationship with Mr. Ross at one time in my life and he managed to flip my life upside down and walk away, hum not wanting to cooperate with police is all too familiar for me.
I keep this story alive every chance I can.

Lester Ross is not cooperating with the police. Walmart surveilance video proves neither Ronkeya, Masarah nor Lester was at that Walmart when he said he gave Masarah to Ronkeya(unless they were invisible), otherwise, video would have been shown as proof he gave Masarah to Ronkeya.
You best believe there are women in Lester’s life who are accomplices in this crime. I wonder what would turn up if the investigation took an agressive turn toward Lester’s mother, female associates, and love interest at the time Ronkeya went missing. I’m with some of the others, I think Masarah was out of the picture long before Ronkeya decided to pick her up. Whether he sold her to strangers, gave her to relatives, or killed her is yet to be seen.
One thing is certain, had Ronkeya and Masarah been white, their probably would have at least been a grand jury indictment for Lester, and his cousin who was driving Ronkeya’s car.
Does anyone know why there is not an Amber alert for Masarah?
bignell, do you know when was the last time a unbiased eyewitness saw masaraha???? a neighbor, a babysitter, a store clerk, someone at the park, or even a doctor’s office? did the police investigate when masaraha was last seen by someone other than lester and his family and friends?
surely when a mother reports her daughter missing from the father’s care and then next she (ronkeya) also goes missing? and then the father’s cousin turns up in ronkeya’s car? well, i think that should discredit his reliability in saying he last saw masaraha in ronkeya’s care, so there cannot be a amber alert. if that is true, they need to change the policy to a statement from a person who is not possibly hiding knowledge concerning the child’s whereabouts. should there not be a credibility clause?
i hope they reconsider the amber alert!

I don’t know the answer to your questions.Howeve, I’ve heard there is a new police chief, and he has vowed to bring the case back, starting with the display of 500 signs showing Ronkeya and Masarah, and asking for information on their where abouts. If Lester really is considered a ‘bad guy’ who terrorizes and intimidates the community, eventually someone whom he has crossed will turn on him. I hope Ronkeya’s family will continue to talk to the media and bombard the authorities until they get satisfaction.
I didn’t hear why the former police chief left, but if he felt it was okay to ‘close this case because there was nothing more they could do’, then it is probably best that he did leave the job.
