A 19-year old Nebraska College student died in a house fire on Friday. According to a CNN article, fraternity member Ryan Stewart died while three others were injured when flames broke out on the second floor of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity house. The fire happened at Nebraska-Wesleyan University at around four in the morning. It says at least 39 people inside. A St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center Spokesperson states that the three students injured, suffered smoke inhalation and are in critical condition. All three were also members of the fraternity.
According to students, two people jumped out the window while others put shirts over their mouth to get everyone out of the house.
The house is severely damaged and Officials are planning to move the fraternity members into a vacant section of a sorority house on campus. It may be awhile before anyone can move back in.
The article also says, the fraternity released a statement on Friday expressing sympathy for all of the families involved and the university released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of one of our students. Our thoughts and prayers are also with three other students who are currently being treated at a local hospital.”
