Police Say Only A Few Of 30 Witnesses Came Forward

Palatka police responding to a report of shots fired in Martin Luther King Plaza about 10:25 p.m. Friday found two women shot.

Police were told at least two women had fired a handgun at a crowd of people near two vehicles in the parking lot of the plaza, located in the 700 block of North 19th Street.

A 54-year-old woman and an 18-year-old girl were each struck by one bullet. They were transported to the Putnam Community Medical Center, where they were listed in good condition.

Even though it was reported that approximately 30 people were present when the shooting took place, only a few witnesses have been located at this time. Those who did talk with police said the shooting was the result of an altercation that had been going on for several days.

While gathering evidence at the scene, a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting and two vehicles were located with possible bullet holes in them.

The Palatka Police Department said they had identified possible suspects, but no arrests had been made
