We could win this "war" if Sarah Palin got elected - the Taliban and Osama Bin Ladin would laugh themselves to death.

it is hard for me to know if it's best to let gruesome dictators rule with gore and direct intimidation, or support the babysitting and attempted 'in our image' rebuilding where control is handled in a more apparently humane way. it is so very hard for me to know. that said, i wonder how many people would be happy to march in the streets or at the capitol if they only knew when and where. ultimately, america cannot afford to be at war, the current depression is largely a result of the war as this is always the pattern of big spending to fight bad guys then recession or depression. where did all that money go? who knows but i don't think the righteous have won even after gajillions of dollars and god knows how many lives. i fear the war machine.

Nancy, in case you have not noticed our protracted war has destabilized Pakistan. Not strengthen it, there is nothing Cliche about what I'm saying or what we are doing. Where do you get that we won the war in Iraq, are you nuts? We have not won anything short of a few very few battles in Iraq and within 30 days of our withdrawal it will deteriorate into civil war.
All we succeeded doing is building two corrupt puppet governments and getting thousands of Americans killed. Oh I nearly forgot we have made Chaney old company Haliburton very rich.
The same reason we could not win in Vietnam is the same reason we will never win again in any protracted war we fight. The very first thing the politicians do is put all kinds of restrictions on when and where our soldiers can shoot. When you tie their hands it impossible to win.

Until you've served in a war don't presume to lecture me about one.
It obvious you are following the Republican propaganda machine. Good luck with defeating this insurgency ask Russia how well that works.
There are thousands of tunnel and caves that even with our air power they just wait for the bombs and artillery to stop dust themselves off and pop out.
Blow up a few Americans and disappear.
Watch and see what happens this time next year they will want more troops.

You are repeating cliches.

The proposal is to limit troops and work with locals in a way similar to how they won the war in Iraq, or (before then) Magsaysay won the war against the Huks here, or the Brits against the insurgency in Malaysia.

Such wars can be won, but using irregular warfare tactics.

And, unlike Viet Nam, which only resulted in the Cambodian holocaust and a million boat people, if the radicals take over Afghanistan, they could destablize Pakistan, which has the bomb and hates India...
