Tiger Woods will not be playing or appearing at his own tournament, according to a statement by Woods on his web site. Woods says the injuries from his recent accident make it impossible to play. Woods seems to indicate that he will not even be present at his tournament, which raises questions about the seriousness of his injuries. Last year, Woods could not play because of his injuries - knee surgery - but still attended the event.

By avoiding the Chevron World Challenge and its attendant media press, Woods will be able to continue avoiding questions from the sports media and from his fans about the recent circumstances. He has claimed responsibility for the incident and lawyered up, declining to speak with police. (Sadly, generally, this is a wise thing to do.)
