Interesting that whymerhymer should take his pen name from the dog breed associated with Weimar, the inter-war capital of Germany associated with the subversion of democracy and rise of right-wing totalitarianism:aka nazism.

Virginia, Governor-Elect Bob McDonnell and his team deserve respect and congratualtions for a clean hard fought election campaign.

But the GOP should be aware that despite the lop-sided returns this was not a transformational election.

The Virginia election turnout for 2009 was the lowest since 1993. Despite sixteen years of robust population growth, the McDonnell-Deeds election turned out fewer voters than voted in 93, 97, 01,or 05.

The Virginia was energized and turned out in masses. Why wasn't this a blockbuster turnout?

The Democratic Candidate Creighton Deeds, a moderate, simply didn't mobilize the Democrats.

If there is a lesson to be learned from Virginia, and by lesson I mean something we didn't know before- as opposed to Virginia Republicans like polished conservatives.

The Lesson from Virginia 09- if the Democrats want to mobilize the base, they must come out as stalwart progressives. That is how Obama won and that is the message every Democrat should take to heart and head.

Dems can win in 2010 if they run as Dems and not as GOP lite.
