Naavi: I believe the root of this crime,as with so many other crimes like it, lies with the personality of the person who committed it.
The person is a narcissist. Someone to whom NO ONE matters but his or herself.
This kind of person will commit the kinds of crimes and acts you mention no matter what medium is available to them.
Years ago, they could send a telegram, use Pony Express, a public telephone, or snail mail to achieve their purpose - or scribble on a bathroom wall.
In my opinion the only possible difference that technology has made is that more people may feel they can commit these crimes anonymously. But that's not true. They can be tracked. And a software/IT specialist should know this better than anyone.
This person should receive a very hefty punishment - for causing so many others hurt, fear, time, money, among other things AND to strongly discourage anyone else from doing the same thing.
Before sending a threat like that they should consider: Do I want to risk missing my plane or do I want to go to jail for 20 years? That should be the choice.
"Cyber psychology" is not necessary. Just regular psychology for the run of the mill narcissists and sociopaths who think they are the most important - only important - people in the world. They should be removed from society permanently IMO.
