The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has issued a missing child alert for 7 month old Shannon Dedrick. Shannon is a white female that is 2 ft tall and weighs only about 11 lbs. She has blue eyes and some reports say she has brown and others say she has blonde or white hair.
She disappeared from her home in Chipley, Florida, which is in the Northwestern part of Florida on October 31, 2009.
Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock says his department is following up every lead they can in the search.
A call came in reporting Shannon missing about 11:50 am on Saturday October 31. The main area they are focusing on right now in the search is north of South Boulevard and on the East side of Brown St in Chipley. Sunday afternoon approximately 75 people were out searching the wooded and swampy areas near Shannon’s home.
Shannon’s aunt from Texas notified the sheriff’s office to tell them she would like the area residents to know that Shannon’s mother, Christina suffers from a growth development problem that Shannon could have inherited. She says the problem includes a somewhat larger than average head. She is reporting this in hopes that this would make her niece easier for a stranger to spot.
Haddock says nothing makes them think the baby has been abducted but they realize the baby didn’t just crawl or walk out on her own.

I can’t find any info or updates on this case today, she is not in the national news and that’s a tragedy.

They realize she’s gone just before midnight on Halloween? is this another babysitter deal and the parents were out at some freaky costume party? What gives !? Were they handing out candy all night and the baby was snatched from a back bedroom? Give some details LE so people are in the aware of whats going on !!!

There’s a report from the neighbor stating the baby’s mother approached her and asked if she’d seen anyone coming up her driveway. When the neighbor said no and asked why, the mother calmly said, “Because my baby’s missing.” The neighbor said there was NO emotion, no tears, no panic. Like she was missing a pack of cigarettes or something. Yeah something’s definitely wrong with this picture. That poor baby’s going to be found buried in the woods and it will be at the parents’ hands. Sickening, truly sickening.

The mother and father is mentally retarded, never wanted her from the start. The fathers sister kept her alot because the parents were neglecting, and she even had child services called on them, the state should have furthered investigated this situation from the start!
This is what people who know the victim and parents are saying…why haven’t we heard stuff like this about Haleigh’s case? Insiders comming forward with info immediately?

Rumors that the mother of the missing child has confessed to burying the body and that digging is underway at the old Chipley dump are untrue, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Public Information Officer Andrea Gainey said she was familiar with the rumors that they were incorrect. The various search teams are staging out of the old dump that is a short distance from Brown Street where the baby disappeared from, and that activity could have led to some of the rumors.

There was a van reported to have been on thier long and rural driveway in the middle of the night on Oct 30, 2009. A neighbor reported it to the LE. They also reported that it was highly unusual but not considered suspect at that time. Alss, the reports that the mother has confessed are WRONG! The search operation is being staged on or near an old dumping site, they are not searching the dump for her. Maybe if we catch these inacuracies early on we can stop it from snowballing.
People, we can not just assume that the parents are at fault! We need to do some due dilliegence before making such an assumption. Apparently the parents are developmentally disabled but have been in regular contact with family and DCFS. One or both of the parents may be the perpetrator but then again they might just be innocent.

Sounds a little like Haleigh’s story to me. Trailer off the beaten path, female child stolen out of the bedroom in the middle of the night with someone in the room with child. Anyone think it’s possible they are connected? Am I grasping at straws? Probably, but one never knows. Anyone in Satsuma connected to Chipley? Is it a copycat to take heat off of Satsuma? Is it a copycat due to no one being charged in realtion to Haleigh’s disappearance?
Just thinking, maybe the aunt that had called DCS went to check on them and found the child under weight and unattended and decided to remove the child herself.
Toughenough, I was thinking the exact same thing when your post popped up. That would be the best case scenario and one I hope is true.

having a mental son myself i can say that i would not trust him with his own child alone if he had any.he can’t even remember to feed his dog much less a child.parents of mental children know they are to be watch at all times.my son is 26yrs old with the mind of a 6 yr old.i am at aww over this couple to be allowed to live alone with a baby.mental retartdation is very hurting to understand,they believe what they see & hear.if the mother got adnormal thought in her mind as to why the baby may be crying,and she believed her way of stopping it would work she would do it without a dought.my son believes everyday he is someone different,half the time he dont know who i am.mental adults are to be supervised at all times.they need to check their oven,dryer,microwave,washer,or where a normal person would not hide a baby.their thinking is off the wall and scary.thats why the mother stated about the mailbox.that baby is on that land somewhere.to bad i live so far away,i have lived this nitemare for many yrs with my son and his hiding spots.i’m sorry to say this but with mental parents and the baby missing i dont see a positive outcome.
Two of the photos posted on nancy grace were clearly of a baby, but three others could not have been photos of a baby. the facial expression NEVER changed…….the body didn’t look like a real baby….. Understand me, the incubator picture and the picture of the newborn with a cap on her head were clearly a real baby…….but whoever is doing this investigation needs to really look at the other photos. The facial expression never changes altho the positions of the so called baby are changed as well as the background. or maybe the child was dead and they photographed it with different backgrounds. Look carefully at those photos.
I’d rather wait until I hear more facts before I start accusing these people.
For one thing, it really depends on the type of mental disability this couple has.
I’ve heard conflicting stories and there is a huge difference.
People with Down Syndrome are perfectly capable of functioning in society. When the parents of these loving children use every single resource available to them to research and understand their child’s special needs, the child just needs to know that there’s nothing they can’t do. Don’t put limitations on them.
They go to school, some can work and live on their own.
I have a 7 year old Grandson that has Down Syndrome. He does everything you would expect a 7 year to do. He may not do it as fast as a child who didn’t have DS, but he get’s there. It’s rare to see violence in people with DS. My Grandson is wonderful with his 2 year old brother. He would pat him gently when he cried & gave him his pacifier when he was younger. Now they are like any other 2 and 7 year old brothers. Playing, wrestling and laughing one minute, then brawling the next. Lol
I’m by no means saying you should just push them out into the world and let them fend for themselves. They will always need our love and guidance.
That’s something I would like to hear some information on. How severe is their disability? Did the couple have help from family or friends.
Maybe someone has an update.
I have known a few with Downs Syndrome and NONE of them would have hurt a child. The one’s I have known were full of love, very happy & forgiving. I would say they loved deeper than most people. It seemed their disability, disabled them from holding a grudge or being mean. I may have just been around ones that were extremely gentle spirits, but I never saw them mean.

like i posted a few days ago about mentally ill people,they think different from us and they would of hid shannon in a spot that we would never think to look.having a mental illness son myself i know what i’m saying.if what i just saw on the news is true that shannon was found in a box on the property,that clearly shows what i said they hid her and did a great job at doing it.i’m never amazed at how a mental person can hide their property in such a manner so well.my son does this everyday.god answerd our prayers i pray shannon is well and gets placed with a stable couple or family menbers who will give her the love she needs.
I also saw the Nancy Grace program where Shannon was found alive and was carried into the press conference by the sheriff. However, I would like to know what really happened to Mrs. Baker’s stepson, who disappeared at age three, 20 years ago. Baker supposedly did time in prison for the incident, but the last word was that the stepson simply “disappeared” while in Baker’s care. It seems this is a cold case that needs to be investigated further.
