We had our regular panel of Simon and Jan Barrett, ace reporter TJ Hart, the ‘Crime Doctor’ Denny Griffin, and investigator William Cobra Staubs.
There has not been much news coming out of the Haleigh Cummings investigation this week, but we are not too concerned. The PCSO has played this card game very close to their chest. Previous ‘lulls’ in activity have signaled that they are about to drop another depth-charge. And next week could well see that event happening. While no one is speaking officially, the general vibe is, watch this space!
Misty Croslin has hightailed it to the relative sanctuary of her grandmothers abode on Tennessee, while many are asking why PCSO have allowed her to escape the area, the straight facts are that they have no valid reason to stop her. While we would all like to ’sweat’ her behind bars, there is one minor obstacle, the Constitution. I doubt that buying tobacco products while underage is great grounds for an arrest. Others would like to see a Child Endangerment charge, but once again there are no grounds. The Child Endangerment charge worked to get Casey Anthony locked up, but Casey was a different situation, she failed to report Caylee missing for a month! Misty Croslin (supposedly) reported the abduction as soon as she realized Haleigh Cummings was missing.
We also spent a little time bringing everyone up to speed on the Caylee Anthony case. Most of us that are following the case are still in shock as to the idiocy that seems to permeate its way through every aspect, family member, and defense strategy. The soap opera writers could not have conceived a more unlikely story! In fact we learned not log ago that BNN was quoted in an exhibit by Jose Bozo Baez, he apparently thinks that Jan’s articles might have a detrimental effect on the potential jury!
Up for a brief discussion was the very sad story of Somer Thompson. Words just fail me on this one. One thing is clear, the whole panel is in agreement, something has to change. And that change has to come in the form of legislation, the Bush administration introduced the ‘No child left behind’ initiative, the Obama administration needs to climb on board the ‘No child lost or abused’ initiative.
TJ made some very telling comments, as a well known radio and TV guy he attended a couple of Halloween oriented events, a steady stream of people came up and asked what can we do to protect our children from predators?
What is the answer?
Well, it is going to have to come at the federal and then state level. The first task is to re-evaluate the sex offender registry. Sorry, but in my mind ‘Public Urination’ is a pretty thin excuse for being labeled a sex offender. The second stage needs to be an overhauling of the sentencing guidelines. In the case of sex offenders, how about a one strike and you are out deal?

I am so amazed at how many people can hate Ron so much that they ignore the facts in the case. Ron was at work. Ron could not/did not leave work. LE has stated they are satisfied with Ron’s whereabouts, LE has stated they do not believe Ron is involved in HaLeigh’s disappearance.
I have been following this case since day one. I am just floored that so many people can actually hate somebody who they do not know, have never met, and that hate is based on one thing, IMO, the fact that Ron was a single father who fought for and WON custody of his children. And that custody was based on not one court hearing but 3 hearings.
Fathers have just as much right to obtain custody of their children as mothers do, whether you like it or not. If you think Ron is such a bad person then can one can only imagine just how bad the mother must have been to loose custody.
Think about it. Ron did not trick Crystal, he did not lie to Crystal, he did not pull some underhanded trick to get the children away from Crystal. And anybody that has read the court documents knows that, regardless of how some want to “paint” that picture.

We read the docs. The judge ignored Ron’s long arrest history, and gave custody to him only because he had a job and Crystal did not!
Geez oh whiz, anybody should see that the children are better off with a full time stay-at-home parent, instead of a part-timer gone 10 hours of the day while a teenager babysits!

Is there not enough Money in the sytem to do this? Well, we still have a missing child, use that 35,000.00 check that Tim Miller brought in from Texas.. Remember, the big hearted man, who wanted to help bring Haleigh Home, so he donated this big check, I’m sure if he thought about it, he might well agree. I’m sure that Tim might also have someone out there that he knows who gives polys and voice analysis, that would be willing to help out for a song and a dance..
Yea anybody would give the children to a parent who was shacking up with a couple of brothers, and her cousin, doing drugs, not going to visit the children, no contact with the children for nearly a month.
Everybody is quick to blame Ron for his drug arrests, well what about his drug arrest in 2005, where all the charges were dropped? Ron was not alone. Have you researched into just who Ron was with? Why the charges were dropped? Where the drugs were found? My money would be on NO, only a few people have researched into that.
IMO people HATE Ron for one reason and that is because he is a single father who won custody of his children, because if anybody has researched, really researched, they know that the alternative to Ron getting custody was far worse.
Hey Deb, maybe you need to go back and read all 54 pages, that run from 2005 through 2007, and then come back and lets talk about why the judge made his decision. I might remind you, he ignored all of Crystal coke issues too. That was the reason the last hearing was called. It’s in there.. He also gave Crystal every opportunity to speak up and say what ever she wanted. He also gave her 30 days to contest the decision in 2007. She didn’t.. She made two distinct comments in court that day that were clear and you could hear and understand..
1. Everytime I go to rons house to visit the kids, they block my car in, I think they are afraid I’m going to kidnapp the kids.
2. I get phone calls all the time from Putnam, about ron and the kids.
When the Judge ask her about not taking Haleigh to the doctor, she mumbled so softly the judge could not hear her, this occurred on many answers to questions he ask her. She stated she didn’t have transportation to take Haleigh to the Doctor..
Ron countered that statement and stated, that his Mother and His Grandmother had offered on many occasions to take Crystal for Haleigh’s treatments, or any place else she needed to go.
Crystal, thought she couldn’t ask anyone to help her out by asking them to take her anywhere.
So, if you have a copy of the Doc, that you said you have read.. Maybe you need to go back and read all 54 pages. And Deb, thats only the info thats been released to the public….
mlee, the children lived with Crystal for a long time, until Ron took them with him, and refused to let them go back to Crystal, correct?
Neither had legal custody at the time, because they were agreeable to sharing custody.
When Ron decided he wanted full custody, he merely took the children from Crystals, and never took them back, correct?

First off Jr was 6 mnths old when Ron got custody so I would hardly say that the children lived with Crystal a long time.
Second, if you read the court docs you will see that Ron did not TAKE the children from Crystal. She GAVE the children to Ron. A father she claims was abusive and had nothing to do with the children, and yet this mother handed over her 2 year old daughter and 6 mnth old son to this man. Handed them over mind you, not for a weekend visit, heck not even a week visit, but a MONTH, she agreed to let her children go with Ron for a month not to Satsuma, but all the way to Texas and Mexico, and then never even picked up the phone during that month to check on the children.
Where was Crystal living when Ron returned from Texas? Maybe people need to research that before they jump to the conclusion that Ron should have taken those children back to Crystal.
When NG interviewed Chrystal, Chrystal didn’t even know what time Haleigh got out of school or what time Haleigh got off the school bus. Outrageous, jmo! Chrystal didn’t work, at anytime she could have driven to Satsuma, visited Haleigh’s class & teacher. She chose to do nothing. Any mother that wants to be involved in their children’s life, can!
It seems to me to be a lot of disagreement about why Ronald had the children. jmo, it just seems to me that Chrystal wasn’t dying to get her children, having a 3rd child out of wed lock, no job, living off others, it doesn’t seem Chrystal could provide anything for the kids.
The point is, this case is about HALEIGH! All the issues of Chrystal & Ron can be addressed later. None of the past really matters today, but, it just waste space & takes the FOCUS off Haleigh.

With Michael Shawn Word in Jacksonville and they moved to Mud Lake Rd later on. Word was in his 30s at the time and has a long rap sheet in many counties. I wouldn’t want my kids anywhere around him either.

Why does everyone keep doubting LE? They are not idiots, and they know much more than we do. They are privy to things we know nothing about. They are also clever and patient. Looking at her parents could help Haleigh by giving us insight and ideas into what may have happened to her.
There is a mountain of negative info about Ron (and Misty) and a bunch of theories on what may have happened to her at their hands (intentionally or not).
If we “took all the fences down,” really looked at both sides of this family, what are the theories about what could have happened to Haleigh if someone on Crystal’s side was responsible? I don’t see any. Why not?
Please let me ask all of you who believe (or want to believe) that Haleigh is alive to please continue and develop that thought. How? Who could have taken her and put her somewhere that she would still be alive? The first most obvious possibility is an SO. But another possibility is someone on the mother’s side. Pick a reason/any reason. To protect Haleigh. To stop the custody payments. To make money. Whatever. Couldn’t someone have placed Haleigh with another family member or a family who really wanted to adopt a child?
I’m just tired of hearing people promote the idea that Haleigh is alive and not provide some ideas at least on how that could be. It could be very beneficial to pursue that thought as hard as other theories have been pursued.
Grossed Out - That’s a rumor that’s been floating around for a while. I’m going to wait to find out if it’s true before wasting any time caring about it. I may not care about it even if it is true.

i would like to say i do not hate ron. but, i hate or dislike some of the things i believe may turn out to be true about him.
obviously, we all interpret things are own way. the best i can understand is there seemed to be an atmosphere of immaturity, irresponsibility and possible drug use in ron and misty’s lives that may have effected the children’s care. it looks to me like this may have contributed to haleigh being missing.
i personally don’t believe m.c. and r.c. version of what happened that night. or at a minimum i believe there is the possibility that the whole truth was not told. if so, then this interfered with the police investigation. and that is relevant to the case. not whether i or anyone loves, likes, dislikes or hates ron, misty or crystal.
i am not one of you who followed this case closely from the beginning. i am behind in facts. so it is true, your judgement of this case maybe better than mine based on having more facts.
when i started reading info on the internet, i was horrified at the vilification of crystal. i was not reading facts. just a lot of hate about a lying hideous druggie who did not care what happened to her children. it seemed many were judging her solely or mainly on the fact she did not have custody. after seeing her for myself, i did not see her as evil at all. someone with issues, yes. of course everyone is entitled to their own interpretations.
if you have facts relevant i wish you would post the information for the rest of us. maybe provide links where we can look for ourselves. it is frustrating to read people alluding to facts they know that the rest of us do not. (i still have to finish reading all the info previously posted - so maybe you already have. or if possible, would you at least post the facts on the forum for us all to see.)
i did and am trying to look things up on the internet. either some of the info has been removed or i am incapable of finding it on my own. for example i did find some of the custody papers but, not all of them.
speaking for myself, my child did not have a father most of his life which i do not wish that on any child. of course children deserve both of their parents. i have not heard anyone judge ron to be bad for having custody. maybe you read that i, myself, have wondered if he out manipulated crystal. i just wish judges have all the facts and make the best decision they can.
it seems to me that crystal, ron and misty all have been piled on. sometimes i have asked myself if it is appropriate to discuss the various possibilities that happened to haleigh.
i hope something good comes from it all.
well these of course are just my opinions. i hope haleigh is home soon!
ms peridot, I would appreciate it if you would read my 7L06 am post and let me know what you think about that. It’s just suggesting that we open up possibilities - and not all of them blame Crystal. There are a lot of questionable characters on her side of the family who are perfectly capable of doing who knows what (without Crystal even knowing).

Two problems with that. It’s our responsibility as the public to hold LE and other government agencies accountable. And we can’t let anyone think that Haleigh has been forgotten (which has happened in other cases that have gone cold).
LE decided to play this close to the vest. They ruled out some possibilities very early on (were they right? We don’t know).
So no. I do not think we can sit and wait and “trust LE.” We can pray they are on the right track. And we can keep reminding them to keep working on it in every way!

boy do i agree with you, on that. real sex abuse is so serious, to minimize it by labeling public urination in the same category is wrong. oh, sure there maybe be a few cases, where it might actually, be about being a creep, but we need to respect what real abuse is. the same thing goes for child abuse allegations. some children are truly abused, and to make ridiculous accusations is why some more serious accusations are not taken as serious as they should.
years ago, on geraldo daytime show, a young man was on who lived in one of the western states. the prosecutor in the area decided to start prosecuting teenagers for getting their high school girlfriends pregnant. it cost taxpayers money for food stamps etc. this young man was now a registered sex offender. he married his girlfriend, but, was not allowed to be alone with his own child because he was a sex offender. if this really happened, i personally would find this an abuse of the law. i fear this is in part why some people don’t take real abuse more seriously. if people want to punish teenagers find a more reasonable way!

The prosecutor was probably about to run for public office on a platform of a “strong” stance against sex offenses instead of an “intelligent” stance against sex offenses.

Sorry but I don’t think Haleigh had a chance amongst this sorry bunch! I would be hard pressed to decide which parent was a better choice for custody. I do feel that Teresa Neves (Ron’s mother) is about the most level headed in the lot and my heart breaks for her especially.

GRACE: You know, you`re right. Let`s go back to Jennifer Bauer with WJXT. Jennifer, what can you tell me about Chad Eugene Reynolds?
BAUER: The police are calling Chad Reynolds a sexual predator, Nancy, and he`s missing out of Marion County, which is the county just below Putnam here. He apparently, we`re hearing, failed to check in with his probation officer, and he was reported missing at the beginning of this month. Forgive me, but I believe it was February 3rd. Police have not been able to locate him since.
We did ask investigators about him, whether they`re concerned, whether they`re trying actively right now to locate him, and detectives here on this case tell us, at this point, he is not a person of interest, but of course they are actively trying to locate him. There is a warrant out for his arrest and they do want to talk to him. Again, he is considered a sexual predator, missing out of Marion County, which is one county south of Putnam County, which is where we are right now.
GRACE: You know, I`m noticing that the incident back in 2002 took place in Putnam County. It dealt with breaking into a trailer — I`m looking right at the police report in my hand — in the middle of the night to molest an 11-year-old little girl sleeping in her bed. Sounds extremely familiar.

So Cobra released the info about a PI being hired by Ron’s family, and that the PI is female, which I personally think is great.
I have a feeling things are about to change, HaLiegh found and returned home, and the perp or perps punished for what they have done.
Now maybe we are on the homestretch of this horrible, senseless crime.

I agree with several posters that RC holds the key to what happened to his own daughter. Misty was obviously only merely repeating what he told her to say as he safely kept himself off of that 911 call, that is clear.
Something terrible happened to this child, and we don’t know what yet but everything will come out in the wash.

debidoll, Ron does not hold the key. I don’t believe for a moment that Ron had anything to do with Haleigh’s disappearing, but Misty knows exactly what happened. She had enough time to get rid of the body. When her brother came and saw no one’s home,that’s when she was out trying to get rid of the body. I think Haleigh probably urinated on the bed or something and she went phsyco on her, that’s why she washed the bed too and got rid of the evidence.
PCSO has had 9 months and have made very little, if any, progress. Gov. Christ has received dozens of letters about this case and he has scarcely acknowledged any of them. As a matter of fact, months went by before he so much as responded to any. This case should have been solved long ago and I believe it hasn’t because of the inaction of PCSO. I believe the perp is in the PC jail right now. They ought to waterboard him until he tells the truth. For a short time, he lived at 116 Monroe (I think that’s the street name). He is related on at least 2 sides, knows the comings and goings of Ron and Misty, moved 3 miles away to a location that is less than a mile through the woods, owns a dirt bike and probably rode the railroad tracks and that’s why the dogs lost the scent at the tracks. He most likely tossed her into the water from the RR bridge after he violated and murdered her. FGS many of us amateurs have figured it out. Why haven’t the pros??????

This was a really good show, even with not much new info re the Haleigh case. I particularly appreciated Cobra’s analysis of what needs to be done about people who mess with kids, i.e., the part about how even chemical castration won’t work when what’s really needed is to cut off the hands of the “diddler.”

My first thought when I read this article in February or March was that he disappeared because he was guilty of kidnapping Haleigh. Same circumstances in his first “caught” offense. I have some doubt due to Misty and the whole family dynamics, but a person could steal someone elses identity and disappear. Especially if they thought being found would result in a long prison sentence.

I did not get to hear the radio show on sunday so i was reading comments today and when you talked about 4 eyes meaning misty and hank whos to say hank did not help his sister!
If he did hes not going to tell police he did!
And people thinking ron didnt have anything to do with it,i do not dicount anyone at this point!

I say move all sex offenders to some remote area in Alaska where if they tried to leave on foot it would only kill them slowly and miserably. Put those darn collars on them they blow up their heads once they are out a certain amount of feet. I’m sorry for the harshness, but don’t they deserve it. How can you hurt a child? By having a cold heart, being manipulative, and just plain evil. We don’t know what happened to Haleigh yet, so I’m referring to the Somer Thompson case right now.
