A long, long time ago Nancy Grace had a good show. Sometimes I tape her and fast forward thru all of the replaying of the video clips that are so old! Have you ever watched PrimeTime (Mike Gallanos) on HLN? I really do like him. I usually do not have time to watch him when he comes on at 4 p.m. CDT but I record him nearly every day.
I feel he is “grounded” and there are no dramatics, i.e., bombshell, shouting, rudeness, etc.

From what I understand, she searched for two hours, and it was around 5:00 pm when she flagged down a member of the sheriff’s department.

That means she must have been home waiting for Somer at or before 3pm.

I haven’t heard an explanation for why she did not call 911 right away, but figure it may be because she was calling around to people whom Somer knew in the area.

Maybe Somer was a child who hid, to sulk, when she was upset. If so, her mom may have thought she was hiding somewhere, and so she searched places where she thought Somer might hide.

You are right. They are still in the news. Maybe we have to wade through all the muck for these children, keep it alive and in the news so that justice can be done.

As it turned out, I, my brothers and sisters, and all my friends walked 5 miles each day for 6 years of elementary school. We were never harmed, and all the walking we did was healthy.

If one of us had been harmed, the person to blame would be the predator, not our mother.

Everyone in my neighborhood walked in the rain, snow, sunshine. I imagine the other kids enjoyed it as much as I did.

Apparently, our parents did not think we were in danger, or else they would not have let us walk.

Same goes today - for Somer’s mom and every other parent who has ever let their child walk anywhere out of their site.

Somer’s mom said she felt guilty, and perhaps what she feels guilty about is trusting that it was safe for Somer to walk home from school.

If she could just turn back time . . .

First, if Tim went to search there again now, where do you think he’d be searching? Local homes, apartment buildings? No. The waters and marsh and woods. There is no living child there. That’s a fact. So people who want him to go back and search and then demand that he or anyone else believe that she’s alive are talking out of both sides of their mouth. Tim isn’t. He’s telling it like it is - his opinion and point of view.

Also, I have not walked in Tim’s shoes - had a child disappear, the cops give up, and finally have to go find her remains myself. I have not started an organization to help others and been out there finding bodies for people. Tim’s more sane than I would be if I had tried to do that.
And he’s taken a good bashing already recently for the Brock fiasco.
So for a man who’s suffered as he has and who has done so very much good in such a unique way, I just won’t second-guess him or criticize him.

With all the horrible horrible things that have been said about every member of both sides of Haleigh’s family by US and plenty of others, for us to criticize Tim for a remark that is not “sensitive” to the family members who want to believe she’s alive is just unbelievable!
It is SO EASY for us to sit at our computers and judge other people. TOO easy. I’m as guilty of it as the next person. I’m just at the point where I think it would do all of us a lot of good to step down from our pedestals of self-righteousness for a while.

I am not into censoring anyone, I just feel that he could have been more sensitive to the nature of the case. I also don’t believe in fairy tales, I try to see things the way they are. And he was down right insensitive.

Did he know he was looking for a dead child when the family asked him to search. Because if that is the case, he didn’t quite give that impression.

And I think it just beyond horrible to say anything negative - nevermind imply that the mother may have killed Somer (as in the Susan Smith case). Who are these “people” (bloggers) who dare to do that? I would LOVE to peek inside their perfect lives! LOL!

Well - and I probably shouldn’t say this — yes, they are different. In the first case, the family is pretty much impoverished, almost illiterate, living in a runned-down trailer park with practically everybody related to each other, and ingesting/smoking drugs and alcohol to escape reality.

In the second case, the family is well educated, articulate, live in a nice neighborhood, and had Charlie Crist (or Crisp - suntan) show up for the news conference.

In my heart, those are the only differences I see. I believe that both sets of parents are completely devastated, no matter what reaction we think is appropriate or inappropriate. Both were loved by their parents very much, and their parents were trying to do right by them the best they knew how, IMO. Both were beautiful little girls unfortunately living in a country where sexual preditors are set free every day to move in down the street, roam among us, and target their prey.

Really - if the PCSO is so sure that the cases are different — PLEASE RELEASE MORE INFORMATION. Otherwise, they both appear to be victims of sexual preditors to me, and I think PCSO needs to go back over their SO list a little more thoroughly (and bring a fresh set of eyes/ears with them). If you remove the differences above, and the Satsuma media circus, they are identical to me.

While looking for more information today on Somer Thompson, I came across a blog from some news station somewhere (can you get more vague than that - but I don’t remember) in the midwest. The bloggers there were criticizing Diena Thompson, saying she sounded like Susan Smith. And then there is Geraldo, blaming Diena for allowing her child to walk to school “when we wouldn’t even allow a poodle” to walk that far.

This may not have made any sense, but I am weary, disgusted, and sad.

Green Cove Springs, the first place they took the Orange Park trash and then on to Georgia, is almost exactly 1/2 way between Orange Park and Satsuma. It would seem likely that Satsuma’s trash would go there, too. This time, though, they intercepted it, and it was quite different with them watching individual trucks and following to GA. Last time, with Haleigh, they may have checked the landfill, but they focused on the circus in Satsuma. IMO.

That’s just the first organization I found. There may be others. But I think we should check out the existing ones before possibly re-inventing the wheel so to speak. That only divides energy and limited funds instead of pooling them which makes the effort stronger.

These are just the children that have received national attention. This week in Texas there are missing and murdered children. There are so many children throughout the U.S. that are missing but we are unaware because all do not get national attention.

I have a habitat for butterflies and to see the various stages of a butterfly is just beautiful. To me, it inspires hope in everything I do. I think the greatest inspiration is to see the butterfly emerge and then flutter among the many flowers.
