Untrue Henry the VIII would actually be rather happy he never actually was into the whole protester thing he was just spending too much money (note even in name the anglicans do not totally disassociate from rome - they protest it they did not rebrand themselves). Rome has problems but not like the middle ages then it was a disaster - no wonder they protested! Imagine scripture only in latin and maybe greek if you could find it. The Roman church thought that a good idea...of course that has now changed and so has many of the little things the anglicans protested.

If the catholic church would just modernise a bit and see married clergy, contraception etc do no harm (Rome needs to stick to the spiritual and stop messing in humanity they are not God but try telling them that) and bring women in maybe not as priests but in some kind of superior role to a nun which is nothing even akin to a priest they could fuse back together. Of course Anglicans would need to drop women being ordained and gays in the church which I mean is clear in scripture as a no go for Christians (here is being modern and just changing things) so there is no way Rome will move to re-do scripture.

You don't need a church you just need scripture! So who cares...they can do as they wish. There is a lot of Christians who dislike organisation know one ever speaks about us and try to call us atheists as we will not partake in organised religion...organisation only brings invention of man with it. All you need is scripture read it yourself and you can figure out what God wants from you - you don't need a doctorate for that....

One of the basic attitudes of the Church in England has been its opposition to the papacy! A look at the history of the traditional church in England will confirm this view from 1066 till today!
The Anglican Church follows and holds to earlier more traditional teachings within the Catholic Church worldwide. The Christian revelation, by Christ to the Saints, preserved in Scriptures, interpreted and explained by the Holy fathers in Council. Seven Ecumenical Councils. The magisterium of the Apostolic Tradition carried down by the College of Bishops!
Now we have the spectre of Catholic [Anglican,] priests with a tradition of some two thousand years rushing like lemmings to join what is in effect a Catholic sect,Rome!
Why Rome has accepted them, whether out of charity or design, I don't know, but she is welcome to them! The lemmings are simply avoiding one error for another!

Continuing Anglican.

Several bloggers have also noted the remarkable timing of Pope Benedict's offer to the Anglicans--that of the feast of St Paul of the Cross.

The Catholic Encyclopedia's entry on St Paul of the Cross explains how he prayed for over 50 years for the conversion and reconciliation of England.

Perhaps the timing of this offer by the Pope on St Paul of the Cross' feast day was intentional, given Paul's fervent desire for the reconciliation with the Church of England.

I wrote a brief article concerning St Paul of the Cross and his desire for the reunion of the Anglicans. For those interested it can be found here:

They are basically the same, that is conservative Anglicans and conservative Catholics. It should work well and I'd like to see it happen. Both faiths are pretty generic and the real head-butting would be in the area of the clergy, the lay-people (in general, and in most churches) don't have a clue of their faith so it won't make that much difference to them.

Hmmm...I wonder if perhaps, by any remote chance, that this was a money-grab by the Catholic Church?! They see the dollar signs.

Wouldn't be the first time...
