Like the Bush strain before it, Obama Derangement Syndrome is an overly hysterical reaction to what are essentially policy differences. The most recent episode of the podcast I contribute to, Shire Network News, dealt with this very real issue. (And this is a right-leaning podcast; we do police our own.) Talk of a possible military coup because of Obama’s policies is akin to suggesting that Bush would declare marshal law at the end of his term so he wouldn’t have to leave.
As Col. Cucullu, the featured interviewee notes, during at least one time in our history we had a wholly unelected President — Gerald Ford — who first replaced Vice President Agnew, and then got a promotion when Nixon resigned. We had this situation for a few years and yet no tires were burning in the streets. This particular republic has proven to be extremely resilient in the face of strangeness like that
I’d like to point out another, more recent example; Oath Keepers. Founded in March by a former Ron Paul staffer (which, in itself, throws a ‘paul’ over it), it is a group of "non-partisan association of currently serving military, reserves, National Guard, veterans, Peace Officers, and Fire Fighters who will fulfill the Oath we swore, with the support of like minded citizens who take an Oath to stand with us, to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God. Our Oath is to the Constitution." They have a list of 10 specific orders they say they will not obey. (Compare this to the 7 promises that men of the Promise Keepers say they will keep. Odd coincidence there.)
OK, fair enough, although if they swore an oath, and they apparently take it very seriously, why do you need an organization to promote that fact? Following a quote from Gen. George Washington that starts, "The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves…", they say "Such a time is near at hand again." Really? Why didn’t this organization get started any earlier that March, 2009? Did something happen then that caused these people to think that they would need to strive even harder to keep said oaths?
A Presidential inauguration, perhaps, just 2 months earlier? Coincidence? I think not, especially given whom its founder supported in that election. And this from a group calling itself "non-partisan". Here’s an article in the group’s hometown newspaper, Las Vegas. I’ll let you decide how "non-partisan" they are.
This is ODS in action. At best, it’s inappropriate and nonproductive. At worst, it’s wrong and counter-productive. This is America, folks. We can handle this.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackOath Keepers’ “ORDERS WE WILL NOT OBEY”: “We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty.”
That line tends to suggest a contradiction with… um… the Constitution, Article 1, Section 10 on its face. But there’s more…
Since they say “invade”, they imply that their idea of asserting “sovereignty” is secession, as otherwise “invade” would not be an appropriate term.
Their slogan says: “Guardians of the Republic… Honor Your Oath. Join us.” But if they won’t take action against a state that secedes (their idea of state sovereignty), then they are not defending the Constitution. The Constitution exists “to form a more perfect Union.” The Oath Keeper refusal above implies dissolution.
The Oath Keepers need to either re-word their refusal, or change their name and purpose, as in its current form, it is clear they do not exist to defend the Constitution. In fact, they seem to be implicitly arrayed against both it and the Union.
I’ve just now heard of this group, and I say spot on, Oath Keepers. Good to see people take the Constitution seriously - God knows the majority of the Gang of 535 don’t care about it.
“Oath-Keepers” is just more chickenshit rabble-rousing from the chickenhawk 20-percenters.
Real military personnel know that lawful orders must be obeyed, and orders come from the elected civilian leadership — not from Fox news and AM radio.
Perhaps people are more concerned now than in the past because never in the history of the United States have we EVER had a President surround himself with so many radical Revolutionary Marxist and Socialist. Never in the history of the US have we had our government take control of the auto industry, shaft the rightful bond holders of those companies and give their cronie Union friends 30% of the company as a reward for their support during the election process! Perhaps because have we never had the government have such control over other industries such as the banks, nor have we had pay czars ( or the other 30 something czars and a shadow government. Perhaps never before have we had President going around the world apologizing for America every chance he got while snuggling up to Hugo Chavez and the like, and willing to sit down and talk to our enemies (Iran) unconditionally. The list could go on-and-on! We’re knee deep in un precedented and un-chartered waters! Plenty of reasons for all sorts of red flags to have popped! Stand Guard America. Disclosure: I am an Oath Keeper, former US Marine and we hope Glenn Beck and others are wrong but if not, we stand ready!
And then when we see the Hollywood Liberal elite, A.K.A Sean Penn and many others snuggling
up and praising the like of Chavez and Castro, (hell our own Senators and Congressmen are on video doing the same praise dance)those that don’t see cause for alarm we feel are blinded! There is a distrubing trend going on for a like of Socialism and Marxism which has many of us uneasy. and not without cause.
Looks like the Montana fellow above is one of those who would gladly roll over if/when martial law is imposed.
