John 23 was one of the best and sad that he died before he could accomplish his reforms — the later popes (even nice ones) sabotaged the church by lapsing back into conventional pattens, some that have been deadly, e.g. opposing birth control. I am not a Catholic, but a critic of all religions that cause deadly consequences for people.
