Dear Paddy Briggs,
Have you never heard the saying, "The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of." (Pascal) Do you really believe that the 20,000 people who venerated the relics at Salford or the 17,000 at Liverpool etc. all did so because they were intimidated by their Bishops? The simple reason why they went is because they LOVE her. At some point in their lives they have been warmed and given hope by her words of faith and love. She has a place in their hearts and so when her relics come they want to draw near and show their love and also to ask her intercession before God. It is true that this will not make sense to one who has no faith. But after all many people like to visit the birthplace or the tomb of famous people even though they know that there is nothing there but bones!
