I love spoofs.  Most of the ones that are made today are just over the top and simply aren’t funny in the least.  Older ones realized that hilarity resides inside of subtlety and it’s all about the clever allusions and off-the-wall bizarreness.  There aren’t that many movies that get that any more, but some do every now and again and it isn’t always the ones that you would expect.  But now there is a movie that has some cleverness to it as it takes on the classics and it’s ready for you to bring home on DVD today!

Starting this September 8th, now available on DVD from Bagdasarian Productions and Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes the latest collection of hilarious takes on different films from your favorite trio of cheeky chipmunks.  Alvin And The Chipmunks – Go To The Movie – Star Wreck is ready to beam you up in a world of hilarious adventures and delightful spoofs.  Bring home this must-have for fans of Gene Roddenberry and these chipmunks alike.

This DVD has three great send-ups of films we all know on it.  The first of these is “Star Wreck.”  In this parody, Captain Dirk, Mr. Speck, Uhaha and the rest of the crew of the U.S.S. Boobyprize go on a dangerous mission to try and rescue the kidnapped Dr. McRoy.  We all know what this is parodying.  The second of these is “Elementary, My Dear Simon.”  The title alone gives away the focus of this parody, but they spend their time hot on the trail of the dangerous Moriarty.  The third of these is “Chip Tracy.”  Again, the title is overly obvious, but stick around for this neo-noir tale of the one clean cop in a city where everyone is dirty.

As far as special features go, all the episodes on this DVD are in stereo sound and full screen format.  That’s better than nothing, I suppose, but it would be really nice to get a little bit more from these guys when it comes to stuff behind the scenes.

These spoofs aren’t very subtle and certainly won’t intrigue people who are true and deep fans of any of the epics being mocked here.  But there is enough genuine humor and a good dose of cleverness to make it worth your time if you are a kid or if you already love this franchise of rodent related humor and life observations.  As a child, I would have found this to be one of the funniest things I’ve watched lately.  So, if you want to bring a little bit of humor into the lives of your children, you really don’t have much of a choice but to bring this home today!

It’s not a Wreck, it’s just glorious.
