[I had originally done this as a blog for one of the more conservative blog networks and got the sort of responses that I had expected suggesting that the states allowing concealed weapons have lower crime rates, not an answer to my challenges and a vast distortion. New England has the lowest crime rates, Texas the most executions — nearly half those nationally:
<a href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_the_United_States”>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_the_United_States</a>
“The nation’s more dangerous states, such as Texas, Arizona and Arkansas in turn …”
Texas also has about the most free of the concealed weapons states — one can carry such in the pocket of one’s car per a new law passed last year. The day after it was passed an old dude blew away a Philippino American during a fender bender incident — not even investigated.
And so the lies abound on such issues. Ed Kent]

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackYour truncated quote on the most dangerous states would hold true for TX with all those executions. Too bad the evidence leads to Texas being dangerous to crinimals.
From the evidence I’ve seen the concealed carry laws have a long way to go until the armed citizen population becomes close enough in numbers to armed scumbags for the threat of immediant violence to have much of an effect. You did make a good point on how to avoid crime in your initial piece; as awareness and simple precautions will deter more crime than armed response. Unfortunately, through your lack of precaution and situational awareness, you have encourged a couple of the types the rest of us want to remove from the street.
