I started working on an article earlier this morning about Representative Charles Rangel and his attempt to throw the race card into the healthcare reform debate. In researching past quotes of Charles Rangel, I came across a quote of his which makes me want to immediately fly to New York or Washington DC, wherever this uneducated toolbag is at, and confront him about it. The quote reads:
“Meanwhile, our young men and women whose economic circumstances make military service a viable career choice are dying bravely in a war with no end in sight.”
For those who do not know me already, I am a United States Marine. I have been a United States Marine for over 15 years. I say that not to receive accolades or “thank you’s” from anyone. I did not join the military due to some “economic circumstance” which, according to your wording, made me settle for such a second-rate career.
As I try to respond to this I am so flooded with anger and disbelief that I can’t even properly put my thoughts together. This is an elected official representing the United States of America!! The same United States that successfully defeated a far superior, better funded, British Army to gain their independence. The same United States that fought to defeat Hitler and the Nazis in Europe. The same United States that maintains the best trained, most powerful, most educated ALL VOLUNTEER fighting force this world has ever been witness to!!
New York allows this man…this weak, ill informed, uneducated, hate-mongoring, instigating coward to represent to represent them??? Either he should be removed from New York or the Statue of Liberty should be moved from New York to a State which is accurately represented by what she stands for!!
Let me give you a bit of education Mr. Rangel, scratch that…I don’t have enought respect to call you Mr. Rangel, Chuck.
I have served my country honorably, as so many other military members have in the past, the present, and will continue to well into the future. There are many reasons I joined the Marine Corps Chuck. Let me introduce a few new words to your vocabulary, which you obviously have little knowledge regarding:
LIBERTY- It is freedom at the center of why people join the military, Chuck. Sure some are attracted by other things as well, but the vast majority of the military is filled with freedom loving Americans who want to perform a job each day that they can be proud of. As hard as it is for me to admit this, I am proud to defend your right to say and act as you please, as ignorant as you may be, you are free to do it.
PATRIOTIC- I am as patriotic as they come. I still get a little choked up at times when I see our nations flag and hear our national anthem before a sporting event. I feel so strongly about liberty and our constitution that I want to do my part to preserve what we have in this great nation
HONOR- There is no more honorable act a man or woman can do in this country than to volunteer to defend the rights and liberties of the citizens of this country. There is an honor those of us who serve get to experience that others do not.
FREEDOM- We believe in freedom so strongly that we are willing to lay our lives down in order to preserve it. I understand that this type of dedication is certainly foreign to you, Chuck.
Liberty, Patriotism, Honor, Freedom!!! This country does not oppress it’s inhabitants to the point that they are forced to join the military, Chuck. You would love to think that true though, wouldn’t you Chuck? That would allow you to preach your hateful words and split this nation along racial lines. After all, that’s all you have to keep you in office, isn’t it Chuck? If you didn’t have the race card to play everyday, and the curtains were opened to reveal any real substance or qualifications you have to perform the job title you have, this nation and the State of New York would find you sorely lacking!
Liberty, Patriotism, Honor, Freedom!!! These are words which are like a foreign language to you. After all, these terms aren’t regularly mentioned when discussing the investigations by two House sub-committees into your personal finances and fund-raising, which have revealed that you failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in income. Not a lot of honor going on in that, is there Chuck?
New York, please do this nation and yourselves a favor and remove this undeserving cretin from office, and relocate him, preferably to a prison cell.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackGosh, a military vet with an article on a blog that isn’t devoted to all things conservative. Covers off to you and to Simon. I orginally pasted a link to this spot, with the caveat “intresting and fairly balanced”, glad to see the BBN is holding up the side.
As to your post, I can’t disagree with the patriotism, but I would suggest that we give the program in Af more time. I hate to call Iraq a distraction, but the Poppies of Afghanistan are funding the bombs of Baghdad and the established fundamentalists taking refuge in eastern Pakistan are directing the flow of funds. If we give it up now, the campaign has been sent back to the bad old days of the late 90’s. Just my two cents, and thanks for lending your career while risking your life to the fight which you believe in.
Powerful words Mr. Williams. Thank you. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
Although I would never vote for Charles Rangel, I hate to hear one vet call another a coward. Please read this from Wikipedia:
“Rangel then enlisted in the United States Army, and served from 1948 to 1952.[9] During the Korean War, he was a member of the all-black 503rd Field Artillery Battalion in the 2nd Infantry Division.[10] In late November 1950, this unit was caught up in heavy fighting in North Korea as part of the U.N. forces retreat from the Yalu River. In the Battle of Kunu-Ri, Rangel was part of a vehicle column that was trapped and attacked by the Chinese Army.[10] In the subzero cold, Rangel was injured by shrapnel from a Chinese shell.[11] Some U.S. soldiers were being taken prisoner, but others looked to Rangel, who though only a private first class had a reputation for leadership in the unit. Rangel led some 40 men from his unit, during three days of freezing weather, out of the Chinese encirclement; nearly half of the battalion was killed in the overall battle.[12] Rangel was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds and the Bronze Star with Valor for his actions in the face of death.[13] He was also awarded the Presidential Unit Citation,[14] the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and three battle stars.[13] ”
I believe fighting and bleeding for your country gives you the right to say whatever you want without being called a coward.
(now on the other hand…he may be a tax cheat…)
Well said Mr. Williams! An offensively ignorant comment, indeed. How did our congressmen/women become so bloody out of touch with the American people?
…and I mustn’t go without thanking you deeply for your service to our country.
Gunny Lawrence, I wouldn’t exactly take the word of wikipedia as being carved in stone and carried down from the mountain. The good rep could have written that piece himself. Lets see the citiation from the army.
Coming from a the USMC, I’ll look it up myself and if he did fight the fight, I’ll have to give some credence to his words.
Well I will be dipped. Apparently, everyone who ever wrote for a media outlet believes that the rep from NY did receive the bronze star for valor. He may be a tax dodging son of a b, but he did display leadership in the face of overwhelming odds. I’ll have to put a vote in the plus column for withdraw with his witness as a footnote.
Personally, I have to disagree with leaving the door open in AF again, but for his faults; he walked the walk.
As I’m reading this attack on Rep. Charles Rangel, did the author of this know that he served his Country honorably in the military? This article is offensive at best!
In todays world most of American men have been
in the military and for that Charlie deserves
the credit.
However, he also deserves scorn for his tax
cheating and lies to the voters. His idea that
tax laws are not for him and his fellow cheats
in Congress. One sure way to tell if a member
of Congress has been in your home is by the
trail of slime on the carpet.
Mr. Williams: I must vehemently disagree with your “writings” on Rep. Rangel. The principles that we all serve to uphold, fight, and die for include the right to “equal justice under the law”, the right to “face your accusers”, and the right to be judged by a “jury of your peers”. Also, there is a principle in our justice system that one is “innocent until proven guilty”. While there is an on-going investigation into various allegations of misconduct relative to Mr. Rangel, none of us should “take the law into our own hands” and declare guilt without “due process”. Now, insofar as your quote of Mr. Rangel’s statement. I must point out to you that the word “many” does NOT mean “all”. If you would care to inquire as to what percentage of young men and women join the military as a viable career choice versus pursuit of a college education, you may be surprised to learn that Mr. Rangel’s statement is, for the most part, true fact. Additionally, I might pose this question to you; why do you think that the armed services offer such lucrative “College Fund” programs as incentives to ENLIST?? You guessed right!! Many enlistees would prefer to matriculate and earn a college degree; except that a college education currently is not economically affordable to those families at the lower economic scale. (Exactly the fact to what Mr. Rangel references). Excuse me, but I do not detect any racism, see any hateful speech, or conclude acts of cowardice. While you may have chosen to forego college and enlist in the USMC, not due to any economic circumstance, believe me, the overwhelming majority enlist to take advantage of the “College Funds” offered by the respective Armed Services Recruiters. Remember, The United States Constitution provides the process that determines the basis of applicable laws and punishment. We as individuals CANNOT, and actually should not, act as judge, jury, and executioner. The wheels of justice may turn slowly, but as evidence, just review cases of legislators who are or have been punished over the years. So, please let us allow the judicial process to run it’s course before we resort to any name-calling, disrespect, and/or inflammatory speech.
with all the information on rangle its a shame nothing is going to happen to him. god bless you.

“the overwhelming majority enlist to take advantage of the “College Funds” offered by the respective Armed Services Recruiters”
This statement by you is obviously not based upon anything factual. Have you ever been an armed forces recruiter? I have and I can tell you FIRST Hand that the majority of kids recruited, at least into the Marine Corps, did not join for the “college funds”.
The majority joined for things such as challenge, pride, esprit de corps, and leadership. An overwhelming majority joined for intangibles, not tangible items, which I’m sure is hard for you and the other Charles Rangel supporters to fathom.
