Excellent article. Like you, I cannot even consider support for this bill until is made explicit that there can be no coverage for abortion.

I ceased being a member of the AAFP when the AAFP funded the Graham Center in Washington DC $1 million to write a white paper stating that Nurse Practitioners can practice independently in rural areas.
Every program that the AAFP has advocated during my membership has been a financial disaster for practicing doctors. From HMO's to pay for performance(P4P) and now electronic health records (EHR's). These programs have cost docs untold millions of $$. Finally the gov is going to pay docs to install EHR's. Someone had to pay the 10,000 to 25,000 per doctor that costs to purchase and install the software, network, computers, etc associated with EHR's.
The AMA makes 85% of its $$ from selling CPT codes, books, insurance products, databases to corporations etc. Only 15% is from membership dues.
The REAL problem is that whomever pays for health care makes the decisions about what you get and don't get. It's an issue of CONTROL.
The public and the physicians don't trust government to be making such personal decisions. Anyone who has been exposed to military care, VA care, Medicare, Indian Health service care, county health care, etc. knows the government does not realy care about you. They just run the program.

Time to leave the AAFP, just like we all did the AMA; I told the leadership if they don't change their tact, I'm not renewing. I'd encourage all family physicians to do the same!

Obama’s health-care promises are being exposed by the details of the actual legislation, and we WILL see costs rise. Support the goal of covering all individuals through private health insurance! http://www.friendsoftheuschamber.com/issues/index.cfm?ID=300
