A recent report has claimed that a man from the UK who died from mesothelioma had never knowingly come into contact with asbestos, which is the cause of this deadly cancer. Mesothelioma is a cancer that is linked to exposure to asbestos dust and fibers.

However, an open verdict was recorded by the coroner on thirty two year old Muhammad Mudaser Qayum after it was revealed that he had never knowingly come into contact with asbestos, and that there was no asbestos at the factory where he worked. He passed away in March of this year.

A statement from the deceased’s former employer was read out in front of the courts, and it read: “We do not have any form of asbestos at the factory. A survey was carried out in 2007 and a copy of it has been passed to the coroner’s office.”

The coroner stated: “It is in fact correct that the survey carried out in 2007 found no significant amount of asbestos and I know that Muhammad worked there from 1997. The medical cause of his death is by malignant mesothelioma. There is no evidence to show a causal relationship to asbestos in the workplace and the development of the malignant mesothelioma. Any exposure was not in the workplace and there is no other known cause.”
