Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is caused by exposure to airborne asbestos dust and fibers, and whilst it can take several decades for the cancer to manifest from the time of exposure no cure has currently been found for the cancer, and it can also be extremely difficult to diagnose, which can cause further problems.

However, one UK mesothelioma charity claims to have made a breakthrough as the result of the discovery of a molecule associated with the cancer. Officials from the charity are now hoping that they can make a breakthrough by creating a vaccine treatment as a result of this research and knowledge.

An official involved in the research stated: “We have found a molecule associated with mesothelioma. The aim of further research will be to vaccinate patients. That means their immune system would be boosted. The vaccine will help boost the immune system to attack the tumour.”

The charity was set up in the name of a mesothelioma campaigner who fought for the rights of asbestos victims after contracting the disease herself. Many supporters in the UK have carried out various events to help support this charity, which is the June Hancock Mesothelioma Trust Fund.
