A man from Liverpool in the UK is suing a company after he contracted the asbestos related cancer mesothelioma, which is a deadly form of cancer for which there is currently no cure. Sixty year old David Armistead was diagnosed with the cancer last year.
He is now suing a shipyard company, BAE Land Systems, for three hundred thousand pounds, which equates to over five hundred and seven thousand dollars. Armistead worked as a fitter and turner at the shipyard, which is where he is said to have been exposed to asbestos.
The lawsuit states that the plaintiff had to work in close proximity to asbestos materials in very confined spaces. The complaint also stated: “Thereafter the claimant was assigned to the drawing office but continued, frequently, to visit the shop floor where he would have been exposed to asbestos dust. The claimant was not provided with respiratory protection nor warned as to the dangers of exposure to asbestos dust.”
A lawyer for the plaintiff stated: “The claimant suffers with gross symptoms of pain and disability, which symptoms are likely to deteriorate. His expectation of life has been grossly shortened.”
