The Kalamazoo County Commission, Grady Biby, was recently diagnosed with the asbestos related cancer mesothelioma, and is now having to take time out from his duties in order to battle the cancer and get treatment, according to a recent report.

The Republican, who is sixty nine years of age, has served on the board for two years. He has said that he will have to miss meetings over the next couple of months as he attempts to fight the deadly cancer, which is linked to asbestos exposure.

According to the report Biby joined the US Navy when he was nineteen years old, and as a result of this he spent time on a number of nuclear submarines over the following two decades. It is here that he may have been exposed to asbestos.

Speaking of his work and his township constituents Biby stated: “When I get finished with this process, I will be back and represent them on the board, just like I always have.”
