12 Rounds (+ Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]

Cop movies are an exciting pastime because they are among the sacred few who are able to shoot a gun, kill people and we still won’t feel bad for cheering them on.  There is a dark glory in cheering for the bad guys, but hero worship always leaves the soul feeling a little bit lighter.  So of course these movies are always enjoyable and usually have more of a conservative twist to them.  They are about police officers, after all.  I’ve never gotten pulled over for adhering to the rules too strictly, so it makes sense.  Now you can bring home a new entry into this genre in a brand new format!

Starting this June 30th, now available on Blu-ray Disc from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment comes the gripping and exuberantly violent tale of a cop and a killer and their mental battles.  12 Rounds – Extreme Cut – Blu-ray Disc is ready to blast right out of your television screen and flood your living room with death and destruction and some great WWE all-star action!  Bring home this action film in high definition today!

Danny Fisher is a police detective in New Orleans with a beautiful fiancé.  He stops a criminal mastermind running from his million dollar heist, but accidentally kills the thief’s girlfriend.  Now the thief has sworn revenge and kidnapped Fisher’s fiancé.  Fisher has to make his way through challenge after challenge, some of them physical but most of them mental, all in a deadly race to try and save the woman he loves.  This movie stars WWE Superstar John Cena, Ashley Scott and Aidan Gillen and was directed by Renny Harlin.

The special features included in this Blu-ray Disc are the unrated and rated and extended versions of this film, a look at the scoring of this film, an optional audio commentary from director Renny Harlin, writer Daniel Kunka and John Cena, two alternate endings for the film, a look at John Cena’s stunts, a featurette about the streetcar crossing scene, a great gag reel from John Cena, a featurette that takes a look behind the scenes of the making of this movie, some viral videos and so much more.

The first clue that this movie wasn’t going to be a deep thinking flick or a real genre-buster is that the main actor is a WWE Superstar, something the promotional materials make quite clear.  The other clue is that it’s a cop movie, certainly no area for great achievements, not counting Michael Mann’s masterpieces.  It’s a shallow and predictable movie that relies on large explosions, fast driving and jerky pan shots.  This movie is guaranteed to not change your life or even give you any meaningful emotional feelings.  But even with all of that being abundantly true, it is still totally worth watching.  It does all that cop movie stuff so well.  They really are all about chases and stuff blowing up and great stunts and being thrown from exploding buildings.  John Cena rocks at making that look believable.  See what I mean today in high definition!
