This week we expanded our coverage to look at the cold case of the 1981 double homicide in McHenry County some 40 miles outside of Chicago. Tavern owner Ronald Scharff and his barmaid Patricia Freeman were found shot dead execution style in the rear of the tavern. There were several names thrown around as possible suspects, but no-one was charged with the crime.
Last year our BNN panelist Denny Griffin co-authored a book with Frank Cullotta, a biography of Franks life as a Vegas based mobster for the Chicago Outfit. In the book there are details concerning another mobster Larry Neumann, the story told coincides exactly with the events in McHenry County.
I invited Ronald Scharff’s son Paul Scharf to join us on the air and give us an update on his fathers case. The case is indeed moving forward. While the suspected trigger man Larry Neumann is dead, he died in prison a couple of years ago on an unrelated conviction, the police feel that there is evidence pointing to an accomplice.
Next we moved onto the Haleigh Cummings case. Joining me on the panel were The Sky 97.3’s News Director TJ Hart, investigator William Cobra Staubs, Jan Barrett, and of course Denny Griffin.
The news this week really was that there is little of any substance coming out of Putnam County Law Enforcement. There was a rumor circulating about a search of the waterways that happened on July 4th. Some digging revealed that it appears to have been a small private group, and it was very localized. At this time we do not have any other information about it.
Although not directly associated with the case Nay Nay is once more out of jail. This time she bonded out on Cyberstalking and Cocaine charges.
The one ray of hope is that the various agencies involved are due to meet again sometime this week. So there should be some kind of update issued on the case. One of the problems is that without a steady stream of reliable information coming from Law Enforcement wild ideas, theories, and allegations are flying around. These side shows while sometimes entertaining do little if anything to bring focus to the matter at hand, that of finding Haleigh Cummings.
Bloggers are an enthusiastic bunch and certainly have some strong feelings on this case. And yesterdays show certainly got them whipped up in a frenzy over one callers comment about a possible source for the famed anonymous donor of the child support owed to Ronald Cummings. I for one consider the subject largely irrelevant to the case. TJ Hart asked the obvious question of, did the caller have any electronic proof? The answer was yes, however it is my belief that she did not understand the question, TJ, I am certain was referring to money transfers, the caller thought he was talking about email traffic. This one comment sparked an eruption of posts on the various message boards. If only this enthusiasm could be channeled into finding Haleigh Cummings.
On the bright side though, it at least shows that there are still a group of people following the case, and for that we are thankful.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackAmen. If only Haleigh’s case hadn’t turned into a knotted up mess of lies and gossip, she may have been found. It seems to me that this has become more of a scandal than a frantic search for an innocent child. Then again, I think a lot of the “people in charge” are turning a blind eye to the REAL situation. Something is missing from the Haleigh Cummmings case.
The ones out there who claim to be searching for her are part of the gossip spewing venom. FIND HALEIGH NOW.
All this bull and know action.All the money on M.Jackson,the clebs.,and the parties and travel the President and wife is doing,why not take this money,fire the police dept.in Putnam county,bring in the big guns,and find that child.The people in that county is more worried about poor Ron and is child bride,child support,on that childs mother mother than the real issues,there is a child missing.Everyone knows the father is about as sorry as they come,parties and drugs are first and of course his teenage wife.While everyone looks he is setting around getting high with is child wife.
What I don’t understand is why does he still have that little boy,is son.He isn’t fit to have that child,he let that Misty girl lose his little girl.Give us all a break and get off the pot and find Haleigh,bring her home.You know M.Jackson is all we hear about on the news since he did himself in with his pills,everyday that is all we hear as if he is or was a God,we he wasn’t,I for one am tired of hearing about it.I want to hear even a little each day that this child is being looked for or found.I pray God is watching over her and brings her home.
