I loved this movie and I could watch it over and over. Great acting and great characters but no happy ending. I agree with the author that Revolutionary Road (the movie) is "like American Beauty, but without the undercurrent of hope that makes that movie so appealing". And I agree that "It is nearly unbearably dark and completely hopeless". I also agree that it is full of "horrid darkness". For some reason, though, unlike the author, I didn't enjoy it at all. In fact, for my taste, it was the worst movie I've seen in years - regardless of the good acting. Maybe if someone is depressed and believes their life totally devoid of meaning, maybe this movie would help them feel better by displaying such a horrible sense of life that even a really bad life compares favorably to it?
