We all know about Hitler and I’m sure the vast majority of us have a completely negative view of him, as we ought to.  I’m also sure some have considered the historical ramifications of his being alive on the entire course of modern history.  But what if someone had managed to kill him before he killed himself?  Or escaped to South America?  Now you can view a stunning true story about just that in a brand new format for you to take home today!

Starting this May 19th, now available on Blu-ray Disc from MGM Studios Home Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment comes the heroic tale of the quest to destroy one of the most evil dictators of modern time from the inside out.  Valkyrie – Blu-ray Disc is ready to shoot right out of your television screen and bring a world of high-definition intrigue, mystery and large explosions in Nazi Germany and around the world into your living room.  Bring home this fantastic action epic today like you’ve never seen it before!

Nazi controlled territory was a vast swath of the world at its height and it was all overseen by none other than Adolph Hitler.  But inside of this Nazi territory there was one man who still had some concept of honor and so he set out to kill Adolph Hitler and he was going to use the military preparations for an assassination against the one such preparations were supposed to protect.  His name was Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg and I think we all know he was unsuccessful, but just exactly what ended up happening?  This movie stars Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Terrance Stamp and Eddie Izzard and was directed by Brian Singer.

The special features contained in this Blu-ray Disc are a digital copy of the film for your portable media players, an optional audio commentary from Tom Cruise and Brian Singer, another optional audio commentary from writers Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander, a look at how they recreated Nazi Berlin for the film, a look at the shots from the air, a great featurette about the sequences on the African Front, a look behind the scenes with Tom Cruise and Brian Singer, a look at what drove patriotic Germans to armed resistance, a look at the story behind the making of this movie and a detailed and fascinating featurette about the true story that this film is built around.

Dang it, but I love Tom Cruise.  No matter how many placentas he eats or how many couches he jumps on or how much he just happens to love L. Ron Hubbard, I still love Tom Cruise.  I can fight it all I want, but the truth is still there, way deep down.  For that reason I was excited about this movie.  Cruise is a fantastic actor, even if he is crazy, and I thought he would be able to do great things with this role.  To be honest, I am a little bit sick of all the movies about Nazis and how terrible they were and how good other people were.  I don’t doubt any of that, but couldn’t our art possibly address some of the pressing issues we have today?  I doubt this film is aiming to suppress a resurgent Nazi party but is rather seeking to exploit a very good and admirable story for some great action sequences.  And the action sequences were very, very good – don’t get me wrong.  It’s a great story and a highly enjoyable action movie, but underneath it all, it doesn’t seem as though there’s much going on.  So there are good people and bad people and they don’t ever seem grow or move or have anything underneath those designations.  But for an action movie, it does a stellar job.  It’s just not designed to be mentally stimulating at the same time.

Watch this Valkyrie rise to new heights in high-definition!
