It has recently been claimed that the state of Maine now has the highest death rate from mesothelioma in the whole of the United States. The data was released by the National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH), which is part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
The figures from the agency show that between 1999 and 2005 the number of people that died from the asbestos related cancer was just over eighteen thousand, and this worked out to just over fourteen asbestos deaths per million people each year.
However, the average in Maine was said to be much higher over that same time period, with the figure working out to over twenty seven asbestos deaths per million people. This gives the state that highest death rate from mesothelioma in the country.
Wyoming came in second with over twenty two deaths per million people, West Virginia had twenty one deaths per million people, Pennsylvania had nearly twenty one deaths per million people, and New Jersey had just over twenty deaths per million people.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbackconsidering Maine has around three million residents, that would equal eighty-one deaths a year. Maine has a slightly higher rate of death per automobile/half gallon of coffee brandy. Maine also has one shipyard which specializes in older ships with the attendant asbsestos slagged piping, plus a fair number of canadian immigrants who might or might not have worked in the mines.
If I lived in Maine, I wouldn’t be running to the doctor, unless I was in one of those high risk groups.
So what is your point? Right, do you have one? Meaningless statistics, without background, aren’t exactly helping and your incessant spouting along these lines take away from what seems to be a personal crusade. What is up with you?
