The 2006 Election is over and the GOP is licking it’s wounds. Even though the Dems will take over the House and Senate, their majorities are thin and the outlook is for not much change coming out of Congress - especially with the President holding the veto power.
Even before the ballot boxes are all put away, the Dems are in an internal power struggle over leadership in the House as Rep. John Murtha and Rep. Steny Hoyer vie for the post of majority leader. Read about that here.
In the meantime, Almost-Speaker Nancy Pelosi and George Bush are having a love fest. The only question is how long before the honeymoon is over.
But political attention is shifting to the 2008 Presidential race. Hillary leads the pack on the Dem side while John McCain and Rudy Giuliani have declared their intention to go for GOP nod. Read a story about that here.
The world community in general is pleased with the Dem takeover, but still uneasy about security with a weakened US Presidency.
Although I am not pleased about the results of the election, I maintain faith in the political system. The collective will of the people is for change and we will have to live with that change - at least until the next election. That’s what democracy is all about.
Unlike many Dems who threatened to leave the country when the GOP was victorious in past elections, I am not leaving. In spite of all it’s flaws, the USA is still the best place to live in the world. I will blog on.
God Bless America!
