We have just received two very important pieces of information. Details to follow, but we will tell you what we have.
The biological father, who so far we have not named, but I will now, it is one Dustin Thompson. Dustin is obviously beginning to feel the heat that is being generated, and has arranged an ex parte court hearing for 1:30pm tomorrow. The object? Get Connie Bedwell incarcerated to prevent her from further talking about the case. It sounds like he wants to use the internet as his crutch. Dustin may just have bitten off more than he can chew on this one. Putting Connie Bedwell behind bars will merely bring more pressure on him, the Auburn Police Department, CPS and all of the other organizations that have been skillfully ignoring the problem.
What Dustin Thompson is doing is amoral. You can bet the sparks are going to fly.
The second hot piece of news, and one that is going to further put Dustin’s toes to the flames is that the Governors office is now involved. Faxes are flying. There is a promise that this case will get immediate attention, the papers will get on the right desks, and the right eyeballs will get to read them. Dustin Thompson might well want to rethink his position, and the finest of Auburn and CPS might want to consider taking this case a little more seriously than they have up till now.
We also have some interesting anecdotal stories about Auburn from some people that have worked at a professional level, and the stories made my hair curl.
The good old boys club are about to get a huge wake up call.
Jan and I have not even scratched the surface of Placer County, but I am sure it will not be long before we are the subject of some interesting conversations by the powers that be. All we have to say is BOO! We here at BNN are going to get to the bottom of the Aaliyah Bedwell Story.
Update 5:04pm The attorney representing Dustin Thompson would merely give us a No Comment. The secretary apparently was told to tell us that this was a confidential matter. But often a no comment says a lot. I think that Sandra Amara made a big mistake by not talking to us, and time will tell.

If Dustin thinks all his problems are going away if he can put Connie in jail, he’s got another “think” coming, that’s for sure. He can’t lock up all of us!

This is a different part of the problem that I don’t think we can do anything about but I really do wish that Connie would get a good independent lawyer somehow. I don’t know what’s going on with that. But with such serious charges being brought and with such serious consequences (jail!) she really really needs one. And of course even then, she still needs YOU (and us, of course).
wow, I am glad to hear that help is a possibility and an investigation will in all likelihood be happening soon.
But I have been to an ex-parte hearing without a lawyer. I ended up losing my home and everything my daughter and I owned that could not be moved in 30 minutes or less. This was based solely on outright lies told in court that were believed.
At this point Connie needs a lawyer before 1:30pm tomorrow. She in all probability will end up in jail for contempt of court. The saveaaliyah website will possibly be shutdown too. With all the support out here for this case, it is possible that someone will have downloaded the video and will be able to put it back up on the web on a new website dedicated to Aaliyah.
Hopefully all those in her family that have posted online will be there to testify for her that they did so completely independent of Connie. Witnesses are allowed to testify during this type of hearing. Maybe the judge will listen to them and not punish Connie. I know this is not fair, but fair does not happen in court, law does. And depending on the wording of the gag order, Connie may indeed be in violation and be sent to jail.
I am very scared for her. I hope that I am wrong, but based on my experience with small town court systems, Connie is in serious trouble right now.

m2c, I don’t think Connie can afford a lawyer for herself. She needs a better lawyer for Aaliyah though. I understand there is some questions about the lawyer the court has appointed to her. The last court hearing the judge found out Aaliyah’s lawyer had not even bothered to look at the video so she was ordered to do so.
In a civil case one doesn’t get a court appointed lawyer and as someone stated earlier that use to be a social worker in Sacramento County, the lawyers there hated it when they had to go to Placer County on a case.
I would think more letters and faxes sent to the Governor could help. If we can get a response in time. The California Attorney General as well. Stressing the potential of judicial malfeasance in Placer County. The judges names are posted on the SaveAaliyah.com webpage.
The worst thing is the speed of an ex parte hearing, there is no way to delay it. If you do not appear, the ruling is made without you. This is an urgent need for help tonite. Please help.
i accually had a laywer that worked for me pro bono dont know how it would work out of state or if he has connections in calif but i will give him a call in the am explain the situation and maybee he can help….he is a honest man and if he cant help maybee some advice could be helpfull….

But any advice she could get would be great. Hopefully she is mentally preparing herself for the possible contempt of court charges. Any legal advice she can get at this point would be helpful.

hmmmm Anon there are thousands of Dustin Thompsons in the USA. There is much that pops up that has nothing to do with him. I’ve looked. You can be angry but I question if tomorrow is successful then Connie has painted herself into a corner in which it will take years, not months, years to gain the trust of the courts back. This will not help her to gain custody. Doing anything in anger will not get the attention of the right people.
Family has stated she does not have a lawyer. If she does, why is she still asking for money? There are reasons why total strangers ask this before wanting to hand out their cash. Why is it so wrong for people who have donated to now ask where our money went? There’s no follow up to that. I wish there was.

I have googled Dustin Thompson, and I do not find any that look like him based on geography and age.

On Saturday’s radio show, the guests on the show (two of her sisters, her boyfriend, her best friend and her dad) all said that the donation fund had not yet been touched and all the funds that had been donated as of that day was all still in the account. They said it would remain so until the amount was enough to pay a retainer and ongoing costs for good representation.

I don’t think people will just trust someones word where the money is going. I am just saying that most people like the idea of a Trust Fund better than paypal.

I don’t disagree with you about the trust. However, prior to engaging an attorney and putting the trust into the attorney’s control, it seems to me it would still be controlled by a family member so I’m not sure that would accomplish much. It’s like a “catch 22″. Trying to raise funds to be able to engage representation but people hesitant to donate because there is no trust fund established where funds go directly to the attorney.
In my post above I was letting “thinkingdeeply” know that the family/friends had answered where the funds have gone so far. I interpreted their question to be that they and/or others had asked this question and were still waiting on an answer. The answer was given on the radio show.
Now, I’m certain people will still say “well how do we know that for sure?”. We don’t but to say that they have not answered the question is inaccurate at this point.

haha I had both girls and a boy the boy was easy! I had 3 daughters first and then my baby boy who is now 18. Im really lovin the grandkids. my girls are 29,27,24. i gained more weight with them and was sick a lot longer so if thats good news for you i know it doesnt exactly sound like it lol! but to get a sweet lil girl is so worth it!

This is what I was worried about. I hope that Connie does not go to jail. It would truly ruin any credibility that she may have left in the court system. I am not defending the father of this child in any means either. As I said in one of my other posts that this webpage could get her into trouble. I just hope they don’t slam her with slander!!

We had a situation in my CPS office where the child was abused to the point of hospitalization. A “family member” who ended up being the ex boyfriend of the mother set up a fund at a local credit union for donations to be set up. From our offices standpoint, WE wanted control of the fund to ENSURE that it went to where it was going to go. So I can understand some people being confused as to why the family has control over it. Not that I think that the family will be using it for anything other than this child, but as someone else said you cannot really trust anyone anymore. That’s the unfortunate part of this society!
And I know I’m going to get shot for this but…..what does this child call mother’s boyfriend? Does anyone know?

Anon the mother used to have custody and the father had supervised visitation rights but his parents were the supervisors so he could take that child in other rooms while she was there anytime he wanted to. So YES Aaliyah DID know the boyfriend. I don’t know what she called him but I don’t see what that has to do with anything here anyway.

The mother has not always been on supervised visits. By her boyfriends own comments and statements, as well as family members, the child does know him.
I am aware of that, but its been so long that she has not seen him and the question had NOTHING to do with anything. Its most likely some one trying to get details so they have more ammo in court. pathetic. because they have nothing else, you will see him start to act out as the case starts to close in on him.

By him placing a gag order on her only makes the people who choose to take her side want to make the world more aware of the situation. His lawyer didnt think about that. Its really not in his best interest for his case.
The only reason I asked if anyone knows what she calls the boyfriend is because (and i have my bullet proof vest on) is that in most cases that I see in regards to sexual abuse it does not just start. And it does seem interesting that the abuse started with “dad” when the boyfriend starting hanging around the child. I’m not saying that he did anything to this child I’m just trying to figure everything out from a CPS standpoint(in another state mind you).
I still just hope that this is NOT happening to this child. And I hope that mom does not get into trouble for exploitation of a minor and/or slander!! Best of luck today!!
And one thing I read on the website is that at one supervised visit they were AT the boyfriend’s house. So I find it hard to believe that the child does not see the boyfriend.
If the father got supervised visits that way, why can’t connie get family to supervise her visits so it won’t cost her money?
Anon, Darrels witness letter states he has been involved for about 2 years and has been a witness to these activities during that time.

OK from your state of mind think of the mothers state of mind who doesn not have mommy and daddy to come to the rescue with a lawyer, think about a mother who her self was in the abusive relationship, think about a mother desparate to be heard, the last thing on her mind was slander of her own CHILD! It s desparate cry for help and she is NOT THE ONLY MOTHER GOING THROUGH THIS, so with that being said, think about it from her point of view, take your time, it may not be possible for you. For all we know you may not even have any children to what the feeling is like to be willing to do anything for your child, only some one on the other side would say such a thing just like the SCAM part.

Anon-that is my point. I do not want to see the mother get into trouble for trying to get help for her daughter. But technically this is exploitation of a minor and I would hate to see the mother have to stop fighting in this way because of that!

How long has it been since Connie has had supervised visits with her daughter? I think that this “fund” needs to be used for Connie to have a lawyer to fight for her as well! Maybe even before one for Aaliyah–at least then her side is being given! Because honestly, I’ve worked with the dregs of society in my CPS office and even those people have NO problem finding attorneys for free or cheap!

Confused, I suppose she’s had supervised visits since Aaliyah was taken away from her, a year ago. I am praying she retains a lawyer as soon as possible. People have said that legal aid can take up to a year or two before someone even sits down and talks to you. I’m sure Connie is working very hard to get a lawyer.

Clearly you are very emotional about this and this has had that affect on a lot of people.
Howver, there are a number of people who have questioned whether this is an internet scam/haox that have absolutely no connection to this and nothing to hide.
Granted, there are likely those from the father’s side and/or family that have posted and added fuel to that fire but nonetheless, there are internet scams and hoaxes that go on daily so it’s not surprising that there are a number of folks that are skeptical.
Particularly more so if they do not have the time to read each and every blog, petition, post, testimony posted, etc.
Jenny, Anon is new here, from what I can tell. They haven’t read all of the posts on all of the stories, so he/she seems to think people on Aaliyah’s blogs are still saying it’s a scam. It’s ok, I understand their frustration.

I find that an excellent question, Confused! Statistically, pedophiles seek women with children. I am NOT accusing either, but it is a point the court would consider, especially if the father has a good lawyer.

This story seems to have hit a nerve in both supporters and non supporters. I almost think the bickering is also tied to lack of evidence.. and by saying that I only mean this. With Casey Anthony the blogs keep moving because of document dumps which gives everyone something new to discuss. In this case, we only know what has been said and the new information isn’t being relayed due to legal issues. New evidence or update on progress would spark conversation and ideas.. JMO

Val, you are correct as well. In the case of Kelsey Smith Briggs, that’s exaclty what the mother’s boyfriend did. He ended up killing that baby.

I am unsure of this situation, I do not say that to offend anyone. I have struggled with this from the moment I first saw the video.
This child does need help, there is no doubt in my mind.
I respect Jan and Simon doing their best and the opportunity to express my opinion and it is just that an opinion.
I also have a story that took place last Christmas. My nephew married a woman with two children five years ago. He and my family love these children very much.
When the woman and my nephew married the ex sought sole custody rather than a 50/50 agreement that had been in place. He lost.
The ex husband brought charges against my sister for physical and sexual abuse three years ago. Charges were dropped because they were unfounded. But back to Christmas, my nephew spent the day in jail because the ex filed charges of sexual abuse.
The first two court hearings the ex did not show. The judge set another trial and requested the ex show cause for the allegations.
To make a long story short, the allegations were false, the poor child had been forced to say some things by someone she trusted.
The child is in counseling and is doing well.
I too questioned my nephew because a child was at stake. I didn’t attack him thank goodness because then our relationship would have been damaged.
My brother and sister inlaw are foster parents. They see so much of this with children they parent. Some of the allegations are found to be true, others are not. Regardless it is the child who suffers.
Just saying that if we can support this child and neither of the parents we could have some healthy questions and answers.
Yes Anon I am a parent of four children whom I love very much. I believe our love of children is why we are so passionate in this case.
Oh of course Karen, I am a supporter of Aaliyah. not mom or dad. I would like to see her placed with anyone other than family. then sort out all the accusations and issues. But for a new person to catch up on all the articles and blogs.. all I can say is “headache”. I did the catch up thing at article #2.
Somebody, your story is exactly why the children who are in real trouble seem to not get the help they deserve. I am sorry your family had to go through that and that the child is doing better now.
Jenny, I know, that’s what I said, there are too many posts to read. In every letter I have sent out to the authorities and what not, I have asked the same thing. Take the baby out of the home, in a neutral setting. I personally believe Connie, and only because I have spoken with her. I don’t even remember article two….it’s been so long ago. LOL
I just wish when I google news for Aaliyah I would see a major media outlet reporting.. would give me hope that someone is truely listening to the baby.

I finally watched the tape even though I thought I knew pretty much what was on it by everyone’s description. I found it odd that the filming was with night cameras in pitch black. I think that is why the child was so verbal; she wanted reassurance where the two women were. She kept saying, “Momma?” like she couldn’t see her. My kid would have insisted on a night light, especially if scary things happen in the dark. I will not comment on the validity of the tape, but I think the courts will question it.
Val, all I’m going to say about the video is that the mother and Aunt were trying to get Aaliyah to sleep. Aaliyah started talking and the mom turned the tape on. We’ve all discussed our opinions on the validity of it already.
Usually I only comment when someone has really got my hackles up, but I decided to break that cycle.
I want to say that I am delighted with the high level of civility. People have differing views, and I encourage discussion from both viewpoints.

I find everyone’s opinion interesting and valid. The more puzzle pieces the better for an accurate resolution. I like to think of aspects that have not been brought up, but I have stopped trying to be right a long time ago!
Sassy, I agree … if this is a scam, I’ve been sucked in as well. Any possibility that a child is or has been abused automatically gets my child advocacy radar up and I have been following this case along with the Caylee and little Emma Barker cases. If it’s true, I say justice better be served quickly and firmly to this waste of a “father” and if it really is a scam then I say I’d rather the public err on the side of potentially protecting a little girl first by acting and doing something rather than being wrong and having her continue to suffer. I could never keep that on my conscious. Kudos, Jan and Simon for everything you’re doing for little Aaliyah!

I hope and pray for a positive outcome for this child. I live in the area, and while I don’t have experience with or have heard of corrupt behavior in the Placer County courts, it indeed has happened in the Nevada County courts, a ‘neighboring’ county.
At any rate, I’ve been lurking in here lately and it is good to see people sharing their opinions in a mature manner, as compared the behavior when the topic is on the Casey/Caylee case. Sad and horrible case, but no need for constant name calling and bursts of emotions feeding off each other. It just is not necessary. It’s hard enough…
