And not only that, local reporters from wherever it gets moved to (if that does happen) are surely not going to be “outdone” by the out of town reporters from other areas. If anything, the pretrial and prejury selection coverage will spend no time getting the public caught up to speed on what is about to hit their town.

Wonder how many times forward he will request a change of venue claiming time after time jury selected tainted?

I have been coming on here a long time, and yes, I have seen many an off topic discussion…they don’t bother me…

…the name calling and personal attacks do… if you feel the need to attack someone or to respond in defense of yourself, you should probably skip it - at least, that is my personal rule…

…but in all seriousness, I have been all over the net watching these cases and I have never found anywhere that covers them in as much depth, has as good of blog discussions about them, or that has commentators that actively work to keep us up to date…

…many is the time I have seen newbies come here, welcomed with open arms, and they consistently state this is the best site on the internet covering these cases…

…part of the reason the blog is so good is the people that are here, their personal comments and off-topic discussions included… they are living on this blog to keep people informed of the cases and to keep the cases alive…

My personal method for reading this blog is if I see too many off-topic posts or I don’t like the content, I scroll on down until I get to something that interests me or I find the link to the next discussion thread.

And last, but by far not least, Simon and Jan are pouring their hearts and souls into these articles… this blog is their home… they have asked everyone to follow a few simple rules - all boiled down, they are simply asking all of us to act as if our children were here in the room… and it is up to each and every one of us to honor their wishes just as you would desire a guest in your home to honor your wishes…

Sorry this is so long, but I really like this blog and feel there is room on it for all of us and all opinions… I am truly saddened there are readers who feel left out…

I am here for a purpose I want to see justice for these beautiful young souls and to be aware of the dangers out there and protect my little boy.

Casey Anthony is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

“The overwhelming majority of the media’s coverage of this case has been negative for the defendant,” says a defense motion filed in Orange County Circuit Court. Anthony, 23, is scheduled to go on trial on a first-degree murder charge in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

“The effects of the inflammatory and negative aspect of the media coverage in this case is best witnessed in the violent and harassing protests which have dogged the defendant and her family for many months now,” the motion says.

Signed by Anthony’s lead lawyer, Jose Baez, the motion says moving the trial far enough away from local media will “not end the coverage,” which Baez said has produced thousands of articles and TV news reports, but will “have a chilling effect” on coverage.

Peter Odom, a defense attorney appearing Monday on HLN’s Nancy Grace to provide analysis of the case, said, “All the defense has to show is that there’s been extensive media coverage. That’s a cinch.”
“Secondly, that it will be impossible for them to find a fair jury pool,” he added, referring to the Orlando area.

Baez cited a number of reasons in his request to the judge to move the case to south Florida, where he says it has been covered far less and there is a “large and diverse jury pool.”

Local media in the Orlando area, he argued, have affected Anthony’s chances of getting a fair trial not only in Orange County but in much of Central Florida. If the judge rejects his request to move the trial to Miami, Baez said Broward County, about a 45-minute drive north of Miami, is a second choice.

I applaud Jan for her blog comment today. Her message was plain and simple….show some respect. The simple rule of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” comes to mind. I think it’s sad that Jan should even have to come on the blog to “remind” us how to behave. I’m all for a good laugh, but doing it with respect makes it more special!

When the Internet was pretty new and everyone was venturing into the bizarro world of “virtual”, the biggest thing to do was become a “reg” in a specific chatroom.

Chatrooms quickly became little enclaves of people from around the world who formed tight friendships. Friendships of people who never met and probably never would.

Into these chatrooms would come unsuspecting “newbies” and if hey weren’t as witty or vulgar or silly or good spellers (!) they were ostracized.

The mantra was “agree with us or leave!”

Now we fast forward to the Blogging world, which is also bizarre. It seems that some people who perhaps never were in chatrooms, come into blogs thinking they are one and the same. They are NOT.

Exactly. If you went to a chat room 10-12 years ago, you’d find the same state of affairs that this blog is in. In the chat room there was no specific topic and there were no rules. Regulars were very territorial and often named themselves as Wench and Princess and other fantasy names and carried on imaginary scenarios. It was all new and people behaved poorly.

Chat rooms still exist for that purpose. Someone can open a facebook group and make it private. The participants can carry on any way they see fit, without distraction or fear of offending someone new.

However, this is a blog. Different time, different purpose.

Upon finding BNN, the first thing I saw was:

“Blogger News Network

High-quality English language analysis and editorial writing on the news.”

I thought I was lucky to have finally found a place with guidelines and specific topics where I could share my thoughts with others who were interested in the same topics.

I was wrong.

I did email Simon and Jan many months back regarding the lack of respect for newbies and the importance of sticking to the topic. I knew that it would either lead to the demise of the BNN or would just run off everyone whose desire was to have an intelligent discussion.

I never received an email from either, acknowledging my concerns.

As a blogger with limited time to spare, I found it very annoying trying to sift through the garbage to find topical posters.

And often, when I did post, I was either ignored or slammed. It didn’t hurt my feelings as such, but it did make me wonder where this “high quality analysis” of the news was. More often than not, it was silly and often offensive banter. How could this happen in an atmosphere dubbed as “high quality”?

There is often a room for “no holds barred” types of conversation. My suggestion is to create one for those who wish to turn the topic into miles of off-topic, crude exchanges.

Surely the most loyal and defensive amongst you can see that some would be offended that the title of the article displayed was nothing more than a chat room for off topic chatter.

It seems sad and disrespectful to me to see another story about a missing or dead child turned into a fight club or a zingy one-liner club of regulars that defend themselves by screaming, “we were here first!”, or “we are here for Caylee!” (insert Hayleigh, Sandra etc.)

Guess what? So were we.

I am sorry that this is not the forum for intelligent and level headed debate I anticipated.
