Personally I enjoyed the book, especially as it wasn't "the John Conner show" I expected.

I liked the added character diversity and the introduction of many of the freedom fighters who make up Conner's resistance.

Sergeant Justo Orozco in particular is a welcome addition to the mythos, hopefully setting him up for future involvement in the series.

Without giving too much away for those who haven't read the book, I was glad that the ending was not as predictable as I first feared, and appreciated the dramatic irony that the fate of those involved are intertwined.

I also think that the events portrayed add to our understanding of John Conner; his viewpoint, his frustration and torment.

Afterall he is meant to save humanity yet events leave him burdened with regret, frustration and anger.

This goes a long way to explaining what has made him the hard edged, world weary soldier with attitude seen in the film.

As we accompany Conner and his resistance group on their mission, we are introduced to a tight knit group of battle hardened soldiers who have accomplished much, but who have also lost much on their journey.

So when watching the movie, I found myself caring more for these characters than I feel I would have done had they remained undeveloped Terminator fodder, thus adding to my enjoyment of the film.

Overall a good book although having read this I was a little disappointed that there were not more T600s in the film.

You either just dropped the greatest nugget or are sorely mistaken with T:S not following Rise of the Machines. Many of of us wish that T:3 ROTM never happened, but it did, and it has been said since the onset of The Sarah Connor Chronicles that the TV show is on a separate timeline.

You are mistaken on a lot of points in your post. T3 is part of the series hence why this is not just called Terminator Salvation but T4. In the prequel novel John Connor references the t-850 attack in 2005. As far as the tv series , and the new movie. Both producers have stated their works are in different timelines. There is no Cameron, female cyborg protector for John, in the Terminator movie's canon. This is a large part of the canon of the TV series. I enjoyed the official novelization myself.
