Sin City [Blu-ray]

I was incredibly excited when I first learned that this series of graphic novels was being made into a movie.  I had read some of them, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the art work.  The stories were incredible and I knew that with Frank Miller on board, it would be fascinating.  As I watched this movie for the first time, all alone in the theatre after midnight, I knew I was correct and that this film would end up having an influence on how comic book movies were made from then on.  Now it’s available in a whole new format and it’s even more amazing.

Starting this April 21st, now available on Blu-ray Disc from Troublemaker Studios and Dimension Home Video comes the definitive edition of one of the greatest comic book movies of all time.  Sin City – 2 Disc Theatrical & Recut Extended Unrated Version is ready to come blasting right out of your television screen and will bring a whole crazy world right into your living room.  Bring home this groundbreaking and breathtaking film today!

How can one possibly try and explain what this movie is all about?  Okay, it’s a stunning black and white movie with some small parts of color.  It’s all about hookers and murderers, cannibals, crooked cops, good cops, deadly priests, precious children, beautiful strippers, fast cars and about a million other awesome things.  Seriously, you just need to see this film as no explanation can express any more than I just did.  This movie stars Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Clive Owen, Devon Aoki, Alexis Bledel, Michael Clarke Duncan, Rosario Dawson, Benicio del Toro, Michael Madsen, Powers Boothe, Josh Hartnett, Jaime King, Brittany Murphy, Mickey Rourke, Nick Stahl, Rutger Hauer and Elijah Wood.

This 2 Disc Collector’s Edition is completely loaded down with special features.  The first disc is the restored theatrical cut, with a great Cine-Explore feature that is far better experienced than explained, commentary from Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, commentary from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino and an audio track of the reaction from the screening in Austin.  The second disc is the recut, extended and unrated version of the film.  It includes a fantastic interactive comic book, a featurette about how to shoot like you’ve been to film school in 15 minutes, an all green-screen version of the movie, some other great stuff from Robert Rodriguez, a look at how they convinced Frank Miller to make the movie, a look at Quentin Tarantino and a whole bunch of featurettes about different aspects of the movie.

This movie is in my top two when it comes to comic book adaptations.  They are a collection of great stories, yet it’s the visually arresting style with which they are told that truly sets them apart.  Every actor in this movie puts in one of their best performances I’ve ever seen, with the exception of Mickey Rourke.  It’s not that he was bad, it’s simply that we have learned he can do so much better.  Yet the greatest part of this movie is not Jessica Alba’s dance scenes or some of the great blood spatter shots or even Carla Gugino.  Rather, it’s the Blu-ray discs it comes on.  In such mind shattering high definition, it’s hard not to be blown away by this movie.  Not to mention all of the special features – this is a Frank Miller-phile’s dream, what with all of the trivial information and an absolute wealth of access inside the film itself.  It’s well worth it if you’re seeing the movie for the first time and it’s a must have if you’re a true fan.

This Sin is a delightful one!
