I worked for LAMP, the organization that helps the mentally ill homeless on Los Angeles Skid Row shown in the film. Sometimes Hollywood comes into a situation, gets a superficial understanding and produces a simple, smooth, easily digested film. In this instance, through Steve Lopez, they had an understanding of how complicated the issue really is, as shown in the the unique and complicated relationship between Lopez and Nathanial. That they didn't quite pull it off given 90 minutes to do it in is not surprising. But if you look past the flaws, you may gain some insight into a world few of us can imagine.

I was so looking forward to seeing this movie. The coming attractions made the movie look great I was so disappointed. I went with a friend who liked it but I couldn't wait for it to be over. I was bored and felt it was too long and it did not keep my attention.

I was very disappointed with the movie. Robert Downy Jr. and Jamie Fox did an excellent job with what they had to work with, but I agree with the other comments that the movie was very choppy, dialog was difficult to understand and I was not moved by the characters as I was from the book. I expected to see some differences, but I did not believe the translation of the spirit of the characters was going to be this difficult. It is very disheartening to see a beautiful story with great actors be destroyed on film. It could have been so much better. Go read the book.

My husband and I enjoyed the movie with a couple of caveats. Jamie's character required him to speak so fast and softly added to the background noise of the shelter, made it very difficult to understand the dialog. The same could be said for Robert's words but not as often. I found myself leaning into the screen to hear better. In these days of multi-screen theatres trying to hear a film with any dialog is difficult over the dunn of crashing planes & cars along with blazing guns going on in the ajourning theatre is not easy. We thought both performances were great but we especially thought that Robert Downy Jr. did an outstanding job. Jamie Fox always does.

Because I did read the book before I went to see the movie, I felt disappointed. The characters in the movie did not move me like the ones in the book. The movie seemed too choppy and did not seem to tell the story smoothly as I felt it could have, especially with such talented actors involved. When I read the book, and I saw the clips I thought for sure I was going to see into the inner souls of these two characters.Being from a healthcare and music background I did not really connect. I was entertained, but I was not reached artistically or emotionally as I had expected.

I strongly disagree with you, being a musician and singer. Jamie Foxx's performance was absolutely fantastic! I didn't not leave the theatre feeling sour. Everyone who I have spoken with 15 years or older loved it, and totally got something out of it. I did as well.
