SATSUMA — For nearly six weeks, the people of southern Putnam County and elsewhere have turned out to support the search for missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings. On Sunday her mother’s family wanted to give back thanks.

Hamburgers and hot dogs sizzled on a grill and side dishes stood ready for any who heeded the signs offering free food and thanks in equal portions.

The cookout also was a chance to showcase a place where those interested in the case can come to talk. Painted one of the still missing kindergartner’s favorite colors, the low purple building will serve as a center to collect information anyone may wish to share.

“Sometimes people don’t want to talk to the cops if they have skeletons in their closet,” said Connie Sheffield, Haleigh’s stepgrandmother. In the small rural community, people may know things they are reluctant to discuss.

Anyone with information about the case can come forward at the center, she said.

“We have to be cautious,” she acknowledged, “but not afraid.”

Many at the cookout early Sunday afternoon were veterans of the search for Haleigh, who vanished Feb. 10 from a mobile home where she was asleep in a room with her father’s then-girlfriend, Misty Croslin. Ronald Cummings has since married the 17-year-old.

Hundreds of law enforcement searchers and volunteers have combed woods and the nearby St. Johns River.

“We figured it would be a nice way to thank the community,” said Marie Griffis, whose daughter, Crystal Sheffield, is Haleigh’s mother.

Crystal Sheffield, who lives in Baker County, has been estranged from Ronald Cummings for several years.

Griffis said the center gives her daughter a way to focus on the investigation.

“It’s therapeutic,” she said.

Inside, there are a pair of couches, a refrigerator and tables piled high with stuffed animals. There are posters of Haleigh, including those that look out onto U.S. 17, where motorists slowed to honk and wave if they didn’t stop.

“It keeps Haleigh’s face alive,” in the minds of passers-by, Griffis said of the center.

“We’re able to keep our minds focused on finding Haleigh.”

I never thought I did, never talked like South Philly, etc. But when I came out west here, in the beginning they told me I HAD an ACCENT. I looked at them …

ALL EXCEPT MURDERERS! HOW **DARE** they take our lives? They don’t belong to them!! I think I understood when Ron was agonizing … saying “It’s not like taking a bicycle, or something, this is MY CHILD!” HOW DARE THEY STEAL a little human being away from it’s parents!

Oh yes, the anniversary. I always felt she did it in a WILD RAGE - the night of the BIG BLOW UP. Wasn’t she thrown out too? But of course, G always tries to soft pedal … they left June 16th, (NORMAL DAY GOING TO WORK???). Nothing normal in that house! I think she flew out of there that night, or the very early morning of June 16.

I also feel it was PUNISHMENT for Cindy, who CMA hated (in general) and for making her KEEP Caylee, etc. I have read that people who use/need people also HATE them for being stronger and better than they are, tho they DO use them. Jealous maybe.

What a phony CMA is. A living JOKE!

OH WOW … that’s right! Thanksgiving … ha what a great one - giving THANKS!!! ;), and Halloween, and New Year’s!!!! WOW! The beginning of a NEW YEAR! YES! What a special year this is for her. After that … just same old same old. HA probably find a new girlfriend every other month, as she did when she was out!

Isn’t her new look interesting? I don’t mean her clothes, hair, but HER. Defeated if you ask me. She is seeing her HERO get knocked down in Court on some important things, like the pictures. She is finally LEARNING WHAT IS!

Thanks MY2CENTS. I will just have to keep tabs on the last blog I was on, and go there to check. I couldn’t even remember!! I spent half my time hunting - all OVER the place. But that should help … thanks!!!

Been away too long … need my “family”.

Some really good thinking here and on the radio. We are a strong force and they are well aware of us, I am SURE!!

That person that keep coming back like a mosquito, wonder what is going on inside her - with her life to make the poor thing have such ANGST and ANGER and nastiness? I feel sorry for her … something is obviously going on, and it’s not good.

WHAT a year for CMA. Her first Christmas in jail, first Velentine’s Day in jail, St. Patricks day, and now her birthday. I HOPE reality is FINALLY setting in. SHE had a choice, Caylee didn’t. She will miss EVERYTHING in her life … only 2.

Ya missed my point…her ears are NORMAL in her school pic…look at my post just after the show…and look at the two picks on the two links…they are totally different!!!!!!!

Well it appears I and others may have missed this one….

On Friday’s Today Show Hal Boedeker reported:

“”On this morning’s “Today,” Kerry Sanders offered analysis that the defense team was showing its strategy. Anthony, who turned 23 on Thursday, is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

Casey’s look will be crucial, too. Sanders talked to a jury consultant who observed that the defense team seems to be trying to give Anthony emotion and make her look like a mom who lost her child.

Is that doable? Can you give someone emotion? Doesn’t that have to be inside the person?””

Now it makes sense as to why the Defense has allowed Casey to carry on smiling in court it is THEIR GAME PLAN. The Defense is coaching Casey to ’smile in court’ trying to give Casey Anthony emotion i.e. trying to soften Casey’s image. Is this not the most ridiculous Defense strategy you have ever seen? It’s by far the most stupid Defense stategy producing the opposite for their desired effect.

I for the life of me thought it was all too very strange i.e., the smiling in court, the laughing in court and her attorneys right there with her doing the same thing acting like it’s normal to smile when your child has been murdered and you are charged with murder.

To answer Hal’s question above: Of Course it is not doable, you cannot give emotion that is not real especially to a murderer. Whatever….the defense is making it worse for Casey and that’s fine with me.

Lee Anthony’s attorney did say that he thought it was not good at all for Casey to be smiling in court and that “her” attorneys should advise her so.

These Defense attorney’s are really sick as they are not defending Casey they are out for the Media attention and future profits it will bring. They all deserve each other Casey and her attorneys.

Remember when you were talking about the photo of haleigh being photoshoped/?????? Where the photo of her injuries…her eyebrows looked plucked???? and I noticed too they looked arched way more then other pics…

I noticed something else…there is a picture on one of your articles where i posted a comment on her ears…they looked high on her little head and pointy…

TAKE A LOOK AT HER SCHOOL PHOTO….HER EARS ARE NORMAL!
