A Mighty Heart [Blu-ray]

I think the media is fantastic.  I don’t agree with everything they do but I certainly don’t think there’s some vast conspiracy of any sort in any direction.  I particularly like journalists who put themselves in harm’s way to better inform us all.  Well, now there’s a story about just that and it’s available in a whole new format.

Starting this March 24th, now available on Blu-ray Disc from Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes a story about love and loss and modern terrorism.  A Mighty Heart – Blu-ray Disc is ready to shoot right out of your television with the telling true story of love and the damage religion can cause.  Bring home this groundbreaking and fantastic film today!

This movie is the story of Daniel Pearl, the former journalist from The Wall Street Journal, and his wife Mariane Pearl.  On location for his job, Daniel is kidnapped by terrorists and disappears.  His wife is devastated and searches for him using whatever information she can find.  As I’m sure we all remember, she is unsuccessful and Daniel ends up being beheaded.  Based off of the memoir by Mariane Pearl, this movie stars Angelina Jolie, Dan Futterman, Irrfan Khan, Archie Panjabi and Will Patton.

The special features included in this Blu-ray disc are the original theatrical trailer, a look at the committee to protect journalists, a public service announcement about the importance of protecting journalists and a featurette about the making of this film.

I don’t think Angelina Jolie is a very good actor.  She was good in Girl, Interrupted and deserved her Oscar for that.  But making her living off of Wanted and Mr. & Mrs. Smith is not something which will make her an esteemed actor.  Nonetheless, in a move which truly shocked me, I thought this was a fantastic movie.  I try not to have expectations unless I’m watching a movie for fun, yet I could not help but expect this movie to be bad.  In fact it is quite moving and a very genuine depiction of the troubling case of Daniel Pearl.  Seeing the heartbreak in the Pearl family is beyond touching, but I can’t help but think of the thousands of other families whose lives have been worsened by the wars of the Bush Administration.  If we knew every story of a dead person, no matter who they were, would be made into a movie, this would be the greatest deterrent to wasting the lives of our young far from home.  That’s the biggest message we should take away from this movie.

This movie is Mighty good!
