A teenage boy who emailed x-rated pictures of his x-girlfriend to family and friends has been charged with child pornography crimes. He has been registered as a sex offender. All that for trying to “get back” at his x-girlfriend for taunting him, and he used the pictures she had emailed to him to do it. The practice of sharing nude pictures is a new trend for teens, and 20% of them do it all the time, most unaware that technically it’s a crime.
It is a bit overkill for this young man to be charged with child pornography and labelled a sex offender. He has been kicked out of school, and neighbours have been knocking on his door asking what he has done, after finding his name in the database for sex offenders. He is forced to take classes and is in the same room as men that have raped and molested children. Hardly a place he belongs, and there is no comparison to what he has done to crimes these other men are guilty of.
Again this is an example of society gone crazy with laws, aimed at protecting us but causing more harm than good. 10-15 years ago this type of thing was not possible, but today pictures can be sent around the world with the click of a button. The teens involved in this instance are older than 16, and though I agree the boy did something wrong, I don’t believe he should be charged with what he has been. Mischief and community service would do more productive things for society than probation and a record like this. He hardly deserves to have his future ruined.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI agree with you Sean. Although the boy was wrong for his way of getting even with the girl, his crime was not so bad that he should be labeled a sex offender and thrown in the same room with men that rape and molest children.
He definitely should be punished but there are ways to punish them that would teach them a lesson that would better their life instead of ruining it. At 18 his life was only just beginning and it is ruined now. So sad
I also think the girl, even though she is only 16, was old enough to know better than to put nude photos of herself online. She should also be charged with child pornography as well since she was the first one to send them online even if it was only to him but let’s face it, who is to say that it was the only boy she sent those pictures to.

Yup its a bit much….making the boy register as an SO…Why not a little community service…maybe an apology letter…..Seems to me they should be persuing real sexual offenders instead of making an example out of one teenage boy…IS it expunged off his record when he turns 18 cus if not he is going to have a hard time getting into school and finding ample employment someday thanks to this label !
His future is ruined if this label dont expunge when he turns 18 seriously NO ONE will hire him…anywhere! and if he is a good student academically he may have troubles getting into a good school.
The news report states that the boy was 18 at the time and now he is 19. It is sad to see a kid get such a harsh punishment when you look in the courts today and see serious sex offenders or anyone that has committed more serious crimes getting no more than a slap on the wrist and set free.
you have so many real sex offenders out there unaccounted for and yet a teenage boy who is obviously not a offender is made to do this, maybee they should concentrate on real offenders and give him a punishment more suited for this..i do believe he was wrong, but having to register for the rest of his life is a little much!
I think its horrible…that kid is 18 and has a sexual offender charge on his record..He is going to have a hard time finding gainful employment. He is marred for life now. Anyone who runs a criminal background check is going to judge and look down on him like he is a chimo!
CHARGE THE GIRL - he could not have sent them anywhere had she not first sent them to him.
