There are few people that have not heard Gregg Rolie’s music, he is an unassuming guy who never seems to seek the spotlight. In fact maybe you do not even instantly recall Gregg. But if I say that Gregg was the backbone behind the platinum selling bands Santana and Journey, you might just get an idea of who he is. If I was to also tell you that Gregg is a member of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, you might certainly sit up and take notice.
Gregg has very much returned to his ‘roots’ with his forthcoming DVD. Santana and Journey were two very different bands. Both had a huge fan base, both had album sales that most musicians could only dream of. But when you go back to the roots of Gregg Rolie you find that he is the embodiment of Santana.
It is not often that I get to talk to alumni of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it is even less often that I get to be the person to have the opportunity to air some tracks from an as yet unreleased DVD by someone of Gregg Rolie’s status.
Gregg is a great guy, very easy to talk with. It seems that we shall be hearing a lot about Gregg this year, he is on a PBS show that is airing in March, and Warner are re-releasing their epic Woodstock set which includes additional footage of Santana. He is also hoping to ramp up the number of live shows each year to between 40-50.
