Why is he process for Filipino's Veterans Compensation such a long tedious procedure?
My father served as a member of the Guerilla and is still awaiting the decision to e compensated by the new Obama, Veteran's Act. He is awaiting a hearing date before the Board but the process is slow. He is 86 years old and by the time, they make their decision to one recognize him let alone compensate him, it may be to late.
Is there any way to process this faster? According to the US, he name was not on the Missouri List, but through my research thus far, I heard there may have been a fire and the documents were gone in the fire. And so, all he has is paperwork showing he was released at the time of WWII. What evidence will they require during the hearing? What proof do they need?
Is there anyone else out there in a similar situation? Is there anyone fighting for justice and recognition of a Guerilla Soldier?

Disability compensation is different from pension. The veterans affair can cancel it anytime provided if your father was already cured from his service dissability.

to fely tattersall:

You could still get the money of your father if you know the way to get it. Apply for it ASAP before its to late. The US veteran affair allows you to get your fathers cheque within a year after your fathers death. So you must apply it the soonest. After a year of not getting it, the Veterans Affair will forfiet your claim.

Hello Ma'am!

I just wanna ask about my father's situation. He, Ricardo Calaranan, was also a member of guerilla. He fought together with his elder brother, Juan Calaranan, during World War 2. He started to fix his papers to get the said pension when I was in elementary. Unfortunately, I already graduated college... working... and he already passed away, he never received the pension. He died last September 20, 2009 because of fatal heart disease. May be because of his old age, that's why. He was 86 then. My question is "Why he wasn't able to get the said pension for him?" What do I need to do? What are the processes that should be undertaken? My uncle Juan Calaranan regularly receives his pension until now. What about us? My father? I'm humbly asking for your answer. Thanks!

Greetings! My late grandfather 2Lt. Felino H. Sombero Sr. a Philippine Military Soldier who fought during World War 2 passed away 2 years ago in the year 2009. He died because of old age in the United States of America being a naturalized citizen. What i would like to know how come until now, my grandmother who is too old and resides at my relative's house is still following up and keeps coming back and forth at the United States Veterans Affairs and claiming it to them that they have completely submitted the said requirements for the application of World War 2 Filipino Veterans Equity that's the purpose of why she's coming back, to claim the fund. [It was stated that " only the veteran or his surviving spouse is entitled to receive the equity, by God's grace my Grandmother is still alive and the equity is approved prior to my grandfather's death, then she can really claim the fund.] I don't see any problem with regards to my grandfather's completion to the said requirements, what i am thinking is, why until now! They haven't and won't grant the equity! Don't make me think twice of addressing this serious matter to President Barack Obama, i would seriously do it!

Cont. Are we eligible for US citizenship? We are doing this for our children. My father is very alive according to my cousin and he's still in the U.S. What are our chances? Please help us before its too late. My dad is in his late 80s and I really want to see and speak to him and Im very sure he will agree to petitioning us because he recognizes us as his children too. Please help us know if we do have a chance and if not we will stop hoping. P.S. I apologize for the multiple prints. I must have accidentally pressed a button. God bless.

My father was granted US immigrant/citizenship by the U.S. govt for guerillas who fought during WWII. He left the country in 1980. Sad to say we were not with him because those who are with him in the US now are his first family. We are 3 in the family (2nd family) and communications has been blocked by people on his side. My father lived with us for 10 years. He has been alternately going to and from us and his first wife which according to my mother she had no knowledge at first because my father claimed he was single when he met my mother. But the truth surfaced later. I had very good memories of my father. He was a good dad and provider and is very proud and protective of us, esp us daughters. He has 2 sons with his first wife and a son and 2 daughters with my mom. News reached me that sent us money thru his cousin when his cousin visits him in the US but never heard nor got it.

Hi I am writing on behalf of my mother. Her father was a 1st Lt of The Anderson Fil-American Guerillas from 1942-1945. He was a very active soldier. He died about 20 years ago now, and his spouse followed few years after. When he was still alive, he kep asking his children to go and claim for the benefits that he was entitled to. No one had the courage to do it as they all were uneducated and felt that it will lead to nothing. My mom is one of the living children and has a copy of my grandfather's identification. She is here in Canada visiting for few months and has asked me to process the claim. I would appreciate every single comment on how I could proceed. I am a busy mother of one child and another one on the way but I am very willing to help my mother claim for the benefits that my grandfather was entitled to receive.

Thank you so much,
Maria

My father Teopisto Q. Paderanga of Tupsan, Mambajao, Camiguin is a WW II veteran, He has sent all his documents to claim the Equity Bill benefit last March, 2009 but to this date he hasn't received his claim. His co-veterans from this place have already received theirs. although we received replies from the US Veterans Affairs Office that they are already processing his claim. When can he receive his claim. His children are worried he might not be able to enjoy this in as much as he is already ailing due to his CA in colon and prostate. pls. do facilitate his claim...thank you!

Dear Sir/Madam:

Greetings in the name of the Lord.

my father is one of the guerrilla of the world war II. he claimed his one time benefit worth $15,000 last November 2009. we heard that they will give an additional 80,000 pesos to all world war II guerrilla veterans, but my father died last april 13 2010. can we claim the said additional benefit?

My father is also a US Naturalized citizen. he is receiving his monthly pension in Vallejo, California in the amount of $550 but when he arrived in the Philippines 3 yrs ago the US government did not allow to transfer his pension in the Philippines. To sum up the pension of my father,he had unclaimed pension of 33 months. I,including my family is hoping that you will give attention to this matter.

God Bless.

Very truly yours,

Cristina F. Ngarangad

My father-in-law was a vet WWII . He receives his monthly pension in the PI. He is now an american cit and resides in NY. He applied for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 under Pres. Obama (ARRA) on 5/6/09 at VA in the PI. He received a reply in October 2009 confirming receipt of application and being processed. That was his last contact with VA(RP). Knowing that a lot of vets got their ARRA already, we tried to make FU and was told to contact Regional VA and/or call 800-827-100, which is a U.S.A. number. When we tried to contact local RP number, we were just told that still being processed and there are so many applicants. Not convincing since maybe she did not even see the application. Can we follow-up the application in the USA even if it was filed in RP? Thank you and more power!

Dear Paul Jaype,

Just like u I HAVE a mother who is a surviving spouse of a USAFFE VETERAN rated 70%. but it was not transfered yet to my mother 'coz last March 2000 when i reported about his death to VA, AN employee there told me that it won't be transfered anymore to my mother or to my mentally incapcitated brother. Do you know the rank and rate of your father as a veteran? Did your mother apply for the transfer of pension to her or is it automatically transfered to her? Where do you live and what is the name of your mom?

TO NANCY,

can you give me some advise ...i have started filing claims at VA...WITH VA FORM 21- 534 AND OTHER FORMS BUT I FOUND ANSWERS FROM VA PERSONALLY NOT CONVINCING.

THANKS AND MORE POWER.

Hi! Ms. Nancy, I would just like to inquire, you see my grandfather (father's side) is receiving pension as a world war II veteran, about some time ago their house has been renovated and the copy of his record involving him in world war II has been misplaced and is now believed to be totally lost. We filed a request at the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) and they redirected us to the AFP No-Records Division Office (AFP-NRDO). 1 month after filing our request a letter was sent to our home stating that my grandfather has no record whatsoever in their office. About a week ago, I found out that the Chief Captain of my grandfather has filed an affidavit certifying his involvement in World War II as a guerilla, thus enabling him to receive pension.. Can I request a copy of this affidavit from PVAO? Does the Philippine Veterans bank have any records, since the pension of the veterans has been always thru bank transactions? I hope you could somehow easemy troubled mind! Thanks!

All Filipino World War II Veterans could get Equity compensation as long as they have valid service in the US Armed Forces.

Those filipino US citizen who left US and staying now here in the Philippines could still get $15,000.00

Filipino World War II Veteran could only get (DIC)Dependency and Indemnity Compensation from the US government provided that the Veteran died on service connected disabilities or died due to war. No pension are due to the Filipino Veterans unless he has an active US military service. Only Old Philippine Scout are fully benefited from the US government.

You can visit US Veterans Affair Regional Office website or e-mail me at val_1x@yahoo.com

My late father, Crisanto S. Esguerra, is a WW2 veteran. Years ago, he was called for an interview at the US Embassy in Manila. Since then, we never heard anything from the US Embassy staff, about the outcome of the interview unitl his death. Now that my father is gone, I do believed, as a son, that my late father deserves an American Recognition for his heroic act for the sake of freedom. I am sure that my his name is listed at the American Embassy in the Philippines and perhaps in Washington, DC as one of the WW2 veterans.

Hi Nancy,

My grandfather fought in World War II, i am unsure of his rank (Army Lieutenant maybe)...but he passed away in the mid-60's. My grandma is still alive and living in Denver, CO. I don't know if she is receiving pension but she could definitely use the money. Can my grandma qualify for the filipino veteran stimulus refund on behalf of my grandfather?

Thank you so much!

alas, from what the local news shows are saying, widows don't get any money, nor will family members of veterans.
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/02/20/09/pvao-demised-filipino-veterans-kin-wont-get-us-lump-sum-benefit

And the government is setting up 14 local centers for those who have questions about the money. Check your local papers and TV/Radio shows

Hi Nancy,my name is Larry 49 yrs old son of Bernardo T. Garcia a veteran of Philippine Scout. He is american citizen but residing in the Philippines. He acquired his american citizen because of his services as a Philippine Scout during world war 2.When he was still in U.S. he receives a monthly pension but when he returned to the Philippines his pension stop.He is now 85 and weak.Is he qualified for the benefits that the U.S.government is now giving to the world war 2 veterans? If yes, how can he apply that he is weak and he is living in the province.

I will highly appreciate if you can advise me regarding this matter.

Respectfully

The Philippine government will be setting up help desks throughout the country for information about this. However, there is no solid information on how the money will be funded.

See:

http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&r=&y=&mo=&fi=p090218.htm&no=08

The TV and radio stations will have up to date reports once the arrangements are made and where families need to go to get information... It sounds like they will be using lists of known FilAm veterans; those who lack papers or witnesses of their service may, alas, be left out.

If a veteran once had a paper, but lost it, there might be a copy of the paper in the local barangay or city hall. One hopes these questions will be answered when the "help desks" are set up.

Dear Maam Nancy ,

Praised be Jesus and Mary !

My problem is about my father who is one of the recognized member during world war 2 here in the Philippines. He didnt get any benefits ever since for all of the members of the family are seems to be innocent as well on how to do and on how to process about the benefits especiallu we are all living before in the province.

My problem now is my father was holding a veterans paper before stating that he was one of the recognized member as well but due to a very long time and thought that there's no hope of receiving some benefits the veterans paper he was always kept before was lost or may be misplaced which we cannot find it anymore until now. That is why I am inquiring if what other he can show to prove that he was one of the member and does my father can still receive those benefits without his veterans paper? I am eager to know about what other requirements. My father is now 86 years old he can still walk but slowly and need our guidance and we his childrens are happy that my father can still receive a benefits for he can still enjoy on it while he is still alive. We are poor and we think that 9,000 US dollars is a very big money already and we need financial for our parents for they cannot work now and we their childrens dont have enough finacial as well to support what they need now especially they are old already and need much attention and cares.

Maam Nancy, we are hoping a positive response regarding this matter.

Thank you so much and May God Bless ....

Respectfully yours,

I don't know if widow's pensions are in it...I don't even know how it will be distributed here in the Philippines. Undoubtably more information will come out with a little time to read what's in the bill.

Hi Nancy

I read your story with interest. A UK citizen, I married a Filipina many years ago and now live in north Luzon.

My wife's father was certainly involved in the guerilla uprising against the Japanese and was on the Death March. He died many years ago but his widow is still with us.

From your reading of this matter, is there any provision for widow's pensions among the recommendations.

Best wishes
