I don’t do drugs of any sort.  I barely even take any prescription drugs, but that’s mainly because going to the doctor is another thing I just don’t do.  So really, it’s an issue of laziness and convenience more than anything else.  Regardless of my own preferences, jokes about drugs are prevalent.  Now one of the classic films about drugs is available again for your enjoyment.

Starting this February 3rd, now available on DVD from Paramount Studios and one of the most painfully iconic decades in American history comes a story about some great comics and not stopping smoking that weed.  Cheech & Chong – Still Smokin’ is ready to roll out of your television screen and cloud your living room up with a whole mess of jokes and hilarious times.  Bring home this side-splitting film today and don’t forget all that snack food!

Cheech and Chong are just hanging out, doing their thing, when they happen to receive an invitation to a film festival in Amsterdam honoring none other than Burt Reynolds and  Dolly Parton.  They travel across the country and the ocean to get the festival, but problems arise when neither Dolly nor Burt show up for their own festival.  Now it’s up to Cheech and Chong to take the stage and save the whole show.  Are they up the task?

The special features included on this DVD are the original theatrical trailer, a widescreen version of the film, Dolby Digital Surround Sound and English Subtitles.  It’s a little disappointing that this is all that’s being offered as far as bonus features, but the movie is far too excellent for a little thing like that to actually matter.

I suppose this film could be described as saying that it’s a semi-concert film.  The second half is little more than most of the favorite sketches from these two.  Not like that’s a bad thing, but it is not what most people went into this movie expecting.  I think Cheech and Chong are some of the funniest comics from that era, certainly the funniest Hispanic comics without any doubt.  Cheech has certainly gone on to make a lot more of his life than Chong ended up doing.  The last time I saw Chong was on TMZ talking about how he thought Michael Phelps showed mad skills during that bong hit of his.  From Up In Smoke to TMZ?  How the mighty have fallen.  Personally, weed jokes are a little out of style.  It’s like nerd jokes – it’s the fact that there are tons of nerds, you don’t have to be ashamed to be a nerd and there aren’t any new jokes about it.  Weed jokes are old hat, but the humor of this movie doesn’t rest on that, it rests of two of the funniest comedic minds of their time.  If you don’t believe in the humor of Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin, Ralph and Herbie will make you a believer.  Trust me.

Even after all these years, this is Still a hilarious movie.
