This is not just about lead pipes but the fluoridation product whith the use of chloramines drasticly incresaes leaching of lead and general corrosion of pipes. brass ,even so called lead free is up to 8% lead and the old brass often 30%. solder is eaten from inside pipes also. Maas 2007 Copland 2007 show this in detail and Maas had tested lead in N Carolina for the EPA in over 150,000 homes from the Univ of North Carolina Ashville. He knows his stuff. Some other chemicals can in some cases reduce this corrosion like orthophosphate but in some cases it makes it worse as every water and process is different as well as the treatment history and each home is differnt and homes are only sampled in high risk old sections. different types of pipes connected cause galvanic action which causes much os the problem.. DC did partial lateral lead replacement and spent 100 million only to discover no improvement and somtimes much worse problems as new copper to old lead is destructive. They did not test before moving foreward. It was a major screw up but at least they stopped. A bad fix is worse then none. If the owner did not replace his lead line it caused more problems. waterloowatch.com has the two lead research studies.

Actually the testimony in 2005 showed the high levels of lead were detected in 2001 as the lead testing was being completed right after the chloramine was added. This is required every three years. This data was omited by the survery so it did not need to be repeated for three years. They tesdted levels bu did not release to the public and Seema Bhat was fired when she told the EPA and pushed to inform the public. This was outright deception. The EPA never tested chloramine for corrosion issues but had beren warned this could happen by staff. They did not warn the cities as they pushed chloramine big time. They all seemed to cover each other backsides but just not protect the people. The CDC looked at blood tests from 201 kids in the worst areas and they tested ok so they gave the all clear and safe. But they knew these families had been warned as faf as a year before to not drink the water and given free bottled water and filters etc. So it is highly unlikey they were getting tap water in the months before the tests. Thus the tests prove the bottled water was safe to drink. Leas levels in blook drop like a rock when exposure ends. They did not test brain levels which is the real issue. Everyone got snokered to protect face and not put the EPA in a bad light and The chloramine project at risk. DC watch has the detailed testimony of Marc Edwards which fleshes this out for details how this deception was pulled off and why. Maas 2007 and Coplan 2008 show now evil this chloramine is when the water is fluoridated. Evil corrfsoive at eating holes in pipes also which often is unmentioned but can cause lots of destruction and total replumbing and walls with Mildue not covered by insurance often now. It will hit the fan if the truth gets out. EPA even removed warnins of forever damage from lead in water in 2004 to help this go away, They on false data put everyone at risk to protect them selves. Thats as low as it gets. 19 of the EPA unions are already at odds with the management over integerty and politics beating out science for policy. nteu280.org is the union site for the fluoridation issue and how this is the foundation of this problem. They give the history of opposition based on science.
